I've found that many christians (or many followers of MOST religions) don't necessarily follow ALL the teachings & scriptures of their holy-text.

Generally, there's been a lot of "pick and choose" for people - they'll follow one teaching / text but choose to ignore another.

For example, I know a lot of catholics / christians who refuse to have abortions (citing their belief in that action being sinful and wrong) - however, they'll happily engage in premartial sex.

Yeah. I have wondered that before too. I remember when I was little all the ladies in the church wore hats. It is funny, Men have to take their hats off to be reverant and women have to keep their head covered. What is up with that. if it says we are supposed to cover up then we should cover up. I think modern day people have gotten lax w/ what it says in the bible. I don't think going without a hat is going to land you in hell but it may be sinning. I will have to read corinthians. Thanks for the question. Makes one think a bit.

No, what it says in that passage is that in some churches, it's permissible for a woman NOT to cover her hair if she has long hair. Paul was trying to settle a disagreement in a church. I'll try to find the passage, give me a minute.

It's in 1 Corinthians 11. It starts out saying that a woman should cover her head, but then it goes on to say that her long hair can be used as a covering. You can read it here:

That particular law is in the Old Testament. Christ fulfilled the Mosaic Law of the Old Testament and gave us a New Covenant.

We live by Grace, not the law.

It would be better if you'd cite the verse, because it looks to me as if 1st Corinthians says the opposite:

1Cr 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? [Actually, nature teaches me that men's hair grows at the same rate as women's, but be that as it may:]

1Cr 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for [her] hair is given her for a covering.

1Cr 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

Paul addresses it in 1 Cor. chapter 11.

And for you others responding, if you don't know that off the top of your head, why are you answering the question??

Christians don't live by the law. The law leads to death.
