How tempted have you been to cast something harmful/negative? When you are tempted what do you do to step back from your altar and not cast?

I only did it once - when I was just learning some things and it was very powerful from what I could tell. And yes it did come back three fold against me...so my lesson was learned. I jsut wondered if others wwere ever tempted.

Wiccan here.

Yeah, been tempted. But, I think about the harm that it would do to me, and/or the people around whom I love.

Often, we are tempted because of the bad acts of another - and I remind myself in those times that whatever this other person has done - they are CERTAINYL not worth my time or energy and DEFFINATLY they don't have the kind of influence on me to cause to me to compromise my beliefs, safety, or integrity.

Am I tempted to actively cast something harmful or negative? I can't remember ever being tempted to actively hurt someone.

Remember that the Wiccan Rede is "An it harm none, do as ye will" and not "Harm none, unless they really really really piss you off."

Remember that what you send out, for good OR for ill, comes back to you threefold, and that you'd be kicking your own a$s worse than the person that you were directing it towards.

Remember that your gifts and your connection with the Divine is something that is supposed to be beneficial, not harmful. Not only for you, but for the world around you as I try to walk in balance.

If you claim to follow an ethical standard, that means that you follow it in the bad times, too. When it's inconvenient. When it would "feel so much better" to haul off and slap someone. When it means that you can't necessarily get "what you want".

Otherwise, you're just talking the talk, not walking the walk.

As Uncle Ben puts it - with great power comes great responsibility.

Well, I have to admit that I've occasionally been pretty pissed at others, and I've often wanted to do something about it.

But I don't think I've ever really thought of doing a spell to harm them. I guess I'm a little more "personal" since I usually want to beat them to a pulp, rather than go to my altar angry and curse them.

That being said, I would think that the same thing that stops me from throwing a punch would help you walk away from doing something similarly rash. Self-control. And a lot of deep breathing and relaxation techniques. And meditation. And scalding hot showers. And beating the sh*t out of my heavy bag. (A full laundry bag will do if you don't have access to a gym.)

Good luck!

I believe that if you have to cast a spell you already screwed up so bad you no longer care about the consequences. I will do whatever is necessary to protect myself and the ones I love; however, up to this point that has never required casting a spell and I seriously doubt it will. Spells are so crude and usually ugly (and that is the "good" ones). I believe that simpler is better and since nothing about a spell is ever as simple as some would like to believe, it really isn't my method for problem solving.

Very tempted on a few occasions. Fortunately, I was able to harness the emotions, ground and center, and meditate on what I was about to do.

On one occasion, I allowed my emotions free reign and went ahead with the work. That was when I learned the valuable lesson that the energy you put out most definitely comes back to you. (Heed the Rede!)

I've never been tempted to engage in such nonsense.

And why would standing at my altar be where I was casting spells? That's what a conjury is for, not a Wiccan altar.

I'm not Wiccan but I do cast...

My answer is likewise never. I only cast on myself, to improve my perspective and focus, calmness and clarity. Or to declare my intentions for my own life.

My experience is that life has a tendency to balance itself anyway.

I do frequently give this blessing, though: May you receive that which you wish for others. The intent is to promote empathy and good-will. Naturally it also applies to me, so I wish everyone peace and joy :-)

I'm Pagan, not Wiccan but my answer is never. Never been tempted in the least
The people who hurt me out of malice will get what's coming to them. The universe demands balance. I trust in that.

From time to time I wish I could jinx or curse many of our politicians, but I know better. They're not worth it.
