Back when I went to church sometimes, I did question something the pastor said. He said "when we die our souls either go to heven or hell." I asked him "if this is true, then does he intend to kick people out of heaven and put them back in the ground so that when he returns he will have his grand entrance when they all rise from the ground and stand to fight with him?" He said "that is a good question, I never really thought about it that way."

Yes and no. What I mean is, one church I went to a long time ago was one of those kind where the preacher screams and yells. Anyway, I told one of the other members of this church that I wished he would lower the volume a little. After the service, my cigarettes fell out of my inside shirt pocket (my timing sucks on ocassion), and, I'm presuming, these two incidents-my comment and the cigarette thing- got back to the pastor, and a few days later that same member called me and told me I should probably look for another church. The thing is, I wasn't looking for a church to attend. I went because I was asked to go. Go figure, I guess. There are some churches in this area that if I walk into them on a Sunday morning, some of the people gasp and act like Satan himself just walked in. Again, go figure.

There were several issues. Not on polity, or anything of the sort. It was in fact on beliefs he held.
I learned the hard way to never prove someone wrong where it would be an embarrassment to them. It was NOT my intention to do so.
It was over facts found in the Bible, and evolution.
Ever since that time, no matter what it was about,(even the weather!) he would loudly disagree with me.
For whatever reason, he held a grudge. I cannot understand how it is a person like that was able to become a minister.
Eventually, he wound up being terminated from the Pastorate, and directed to take anger management classes.
He refused.

Many times. Some preachers are not as studied as you might think and may be preaching false doctrines. You have to research the scriptures in depth on your own to know what is really the truth and it may take many years to come to a sound understanding of the scriptures.
Woe unto those who challenge a preacher's sermon or teachings! Want to see a pharisee have a Kaniption? Just challenge him on a teaching and have the scriptures to back it up... oh that drives them nuts! I about got assaulted by one over some of the creation theories.

Yes, but depending on who's preaching. Not because he's up there in the pulpit doesn't mean he's preaching the truth. We have individual responsibilities...to study the word(which is our only safety) so we are not mislead or following blindly. I have enjoyed and been blessed by messages from pastors that i've been listening to(so far)...but there are also preachers out there who are preaching error. Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment. "Study to show thyself approved unto God." 2 Timothy 2:15

I'm preaching this Sunday, and I'm ending the sermon with a question, and then I'm stepping down from the pulpit, into the pews, and I'm going to lead a brief 'discussion' around the different answers. So there will be plenty of opportunity for people not to agree with the preacher.
If everyone agreed, then how would anyone learn something new?

Yes. Preachers are just as liable to make mistakes as the rest of us.
I've met preachers that would have driven me away from God if I had allowed them to.
I've also known preachers who taught with dignity, prayer and humility. They are the ones I listen to. And yes, I've disagreed with them, too, at times.
Christianity is not about conforming to every word that proceeds forth from the mouth of another person, we are to be discerning and cautious in our acceptance of what is preached.

I have disagreed at times. I still respect and love him. He is a man of God. Even the bible tells us that we will not agree with all people all the time about doctrine. The most important thing is uniting with each other through Christ Jesus and respecting others opinions.

I disagree with preachers when ,while they are preaching, they drift away from the Word and start giving their "own" opinions.(sometimes)

We interpret many things differently. The current pastor is far more conservative than I, yet he is pretty spiritual as far as fundies go so I have no strong issues with his lessons. We just see the details differently and occasionally I bite my tongue...I am vastly out numbered in that church and there are not many spirit-driven churches where I live.
