Having participated in the R&S melee for nearly two months now, I can safely say that there are a lot of people who spout off opinions about every issue known to man. Most of the time these are poorly constructed arguments that have more in common with heated emotion than with rational, thought-out theological contemplation. There is, however, one true Christian whose views I respect. When I see a posting by them I am just left speechless at the obvious intelligence and sensitivity displayed. They have almost made me drop my atheistic ways and convert to Christianity.

Parrakeets 4 Jesus, you are that shining example of Christianity. You have touched my heart. :) I strongly advise anyone else on here to follow the inspiring lead of Parrakeets 4 Jesus and tackle the truly important issues facing the world today.

To make this a question: what other Christians have inspired you with their message and why?

This tribute and question has been brought to you courtesy of Jack

Why is it that when you find fault with us, you say we must try to prove God to you apart from the Word of God the Bible?
Why do you appear to despise this book so much? I ask this because even science in the formation of the plannets has to give over to a form of faith as there is no scientific fact to support the best current theories. 40 billion years ago, 20 million years ago, bla bla bla happened. How do you know? Were you there? Are you not reading this from a book as well? Is it not a matter of faith for you to believe in string theory, or the big bang theory?

For those of you that attmpt to disprove Christians based on the idea that our book is not correct, what basis do you have for refuting it? Have you studied ancient texts and noted how information was handed down form generation to generation by word of mouth. This was the accepted way to hear about a history of a people. The answer is yes.

This is a link to an article called "Heaven and Its Wonders, and Earth: The World the Biblical Writers Thought They Lived In" by Dr. Robert M. Price and Reginald Finley Sr. http://www.infidelguy.com/heaven_sky.htm

Early biblical writers did think that Heaven was the sky. They imagined the Earth as a flat disk with a dome over it. The article I linked is well researched and interesting. It really explains some of the stranger parts of the bible when you understand the world that early biblical writers imagined.

Please don't respond by trying to tell me what your personal idea of Heaven is. That is not what this question is about. Please read the article I have linked, and if you have any information to contribute please link it.

I am a spanish boy (from spain) that moved to South America with my family and has been living there for a lot of years. I went to visit north america for one month and got a really bad experience. People treated me really bad, especially black americans. My question is why Americans are so arrogant? You really think your country is the best? Let me tell you, I was disgusted by the ambient in America! I have been to a lot of places in the world, and are much better then America. I think you should change your actitude, because the whole world hates you! You think you can come to South America and rape our countries, destroy everything, and then build a wall in Mexico to prevent us from going there! I cant belive you can degrade so much a nation! I think South America should build a wall to prevent you from comming. I pitty North America, you dont have love or family values as Latin American countries have. Maybe you will be angry, but its true. America should change as a nation.

Is there something you do regularly as part of your beliefs and traditions that just rocks your world?

Mine's a small one, really . . . Texas heathens in particular, perhaps because we have such a strong sense of place and geographic identity, tend to honor, gift, and acknowledge the "hearthwights" or "hausvaettir" (like elves or perhaps gnomes . . . small animate/discrete spirits of place connected to one's house and hearth). I make small daily offerings of honeyed coffee, and a weekly offering of nuts, grains, and butter inscribed with the "rune for the week."

It just really makes me feel all heathen and connected to my world! :-)

Whatta ya got? Do tell!

Following on from my last question about Tesco.....

I was in tears because I was so angry and no one at Tesco had the courtesy to call me to let me know what was going on.

The manager said that it was a breaskdown in communication, the driver failed to deliver my shopping between 9-11am this morning, I have been waiting until 6pm tonight to get a call to be told that I may not get my delivery.
He has refunded my card.

About ten minutes later, another driver arrives with my shopping which has just been refunded.

What would you do, bearing in mind, Tesco had a 'dont give a sh*t attitude to me?'

. . . . that you ONLY could have learned by following your particular folkway or tradition? (Or at least learned more readily/fully by believing and practicing what you do)

I'll add mine after I've seen some of y'alls. :-)

I'm Japanese and a new flight attendant for a Japanese airline company and my boss told me that I should talk in English to non-Asian customers.

Is this just good service or one of racism? There are many Asian customers who aren't Japanese. What about them? and What about Europeans or Africans who speak Japanese by their practice?

I think I should talk in Japanese to any cutomers first and if they ask me to speak English, then I should start talking in English.

What do you think?

Is God one or is He three? I personally believe He is one. God is our Father. He sent His Son via His Holy Spirit. Does that make a trio? No. God was IN Christ but that doesn't make Him God. God is in me too and I am not God. God is a Spirit and not flesh but He does come in to us and make His dwelling there via His Spirit. So what do you think about this age old question?

In Christ, George...

I have gotten a decent amount of negative and downright rude responses from atheists on here. While I realize this does not include all of you, and probably not even the majority, it still has peaked my curiosity enough to ask this question. When a new person you meet tells you they are a Christian, but you know nothing else about them, what opinion do you form? It has been my experience from asking questions that some (I said SOME, not ALL, don't get your panties in a wad) atheists tend to automatically assume Christians are weak and need some belief to cling to, or that Christians aren't as intelligent as those who don't believe. Furthermore, let's explore the possibility of Christians, rather than being inferior or less intelligent, actually having a particularly keen ability to tune in to all things spiritual, and that it actually requires superior strength to admit that there is an incomprehensibly huge mass of things out there that science has not been able to explain.

I'll start. :-)

One of the core principles of heathenry is "frith," which many heathens incorrectly translate as "peace." But the meaning is more akin to "protection" . . . the solidarity and loyalty and mutual defense of the family, kinclan, Aett, or vinfengi (oath bound mutual aid association). But FAMILY comes first, in heathenry, and mine is . . . well, aside from mostly being fundies and draugrtru, they're dysfunctional in a lot of *other* ways too.

But being a "good heathen" means standing by them, and I do. It's just not always easy, lol.

How about the rest of you? What is the most difficult aspect of your personal traditions for you to live up to and do well?

Where in the bible did Jesus ever say he was dying for our sins? When did he ever say he was God?

Jesus died because a roman court under pilate sentenced him to death for claiming to be the Son of god under complaint from jewish leaders.

I have read the entire bible several times, and the only person who makes this claim is Paul, who never met Jesus, and wrote the Gospels more than a decade after Jesus died.

Jesus refers to God as his father, and his God, and that WE are ALL Gods sons. He never claimed to be God at any point in his life.

Paul acknowledged that Jesus never saw himself as God even though(he was equal to God(so he said))

When Jesus was called a good rabbi, he said, there is nobody good but God.

Jesus prayed to God several times, why would god pray to himself. He said miracles were for God to be glorified.

1. Does god disapprove of taking birth control? I'm taking the shots where you only get one period a month because mine are really bad and make me incredibly sick...and if i have a basketball game or school then i have to miss and it aggravates my teachers and coaches after a certain point. I heard that it is "wrong" even if it isnt to control birth. I'm not some promiscuous tramp. I'm a good girl and even if i did need contraception i wouldnt rely on a shot, cause it wouldnt protect me from diseases anyways.

2. Somethin else ive heard is that if you dont marry God doesnt like it. As long as i dont go around doing stuff i should be doing, then why would that be bad? I want to be an athletic trainer and I was talking to our schools athletic trainer, and some of the other ones in the county, and most of them arent married because they said they dont have time to find anyone or keep a relationship .

3 Does god disapprove of adopting, especially as a single person?

Thanks

Personally I don't see the point in trying to make people believe the way that I believe or feel how I feel or even to have them see and agree with everything that I do or believe simply because at the end of the day I'm gonna believe how I want to believe and I realize that everybody else is gonna do the same thing as well. So I ask you why do some people feel the need to do that and are you one of those people?

For our anniversary, my husband and I went to this superb Italian restaurant in DC. I ordered a veal in some sort of stew. As I was eating (using fork and knife) the waiter came over and placed a tiny fork in the middle of the meat. What on earth was it for and what was I supposed to do with it? It was really embarrassing not knowing, and I couldn't ask him because he was foreign and didn' t understand anything we said beyond what food we ordered. Eventually, I resumed eating the way I had been. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you!
