I'll start. :-)
One of the core principles of heathenry is "frith," which many heathens incorrectly translate as "peace." But the meaning is more akin to "protection" . . . the solidarity and loyalty and mutual defense of the family, kinclan, Aett, or vinfengi (oath bound mutual aid association). But FAMILY comes first, in heathenry, and mine is . . . well, aside from mostly being fundies and draugrtru, they're dysfunctional in a lot of *other* ways too.
But being a "good heathen" means standing by them, and I do. It's just not always easy, lol.
How about the rest of you? What is the most difficult aspect of your personal traditions for you to live up to and do well?

Being content or even trying to be happy with the fact that we are all connected. Somedays, I sit and wonder why we have to share our Oxygen with some of these people! I know that they are my sisters and brothers but many are killing off people in the name of their "God" and still others care only for & about themselves. It seems that they are either detromental to humanity or just idle in life. Some days I reach out, other days I just stay in my shell.
I got a violation this week for asking why it is so hard to comprehend the concept of "Respect Personal Freedom".
It's a cruel harsh world out there, and they don't like us spreading the concepts of peace and tolerance in it!
Blessed Be our Earth Mother and ALL her children!

My most difficult aspect is trying to educate others about my ways (wicca). There are SO many false myths about us that it is impossible to correct everyone's misunderstnadings. After more than 38 years of being a Wiccan, I have had to "defend" my Faith so many times that now, I just smile and walk away rather than undergo ANOTHER argument over Satanism (which we do NOT believe in), and how evil I am (which I am not) and how I'm going to go to Hell (If Heaven is FULL of folks like that, then I think I'd RATHER be in Hell, anyway).
My hardest time though is for ME, to find the time that any proficient Witch NEEDS to do the meditation, herb gathering, and other MUNDANE work of BEING a Witch. This hustle and bustle world demands TOO much of our personal time to enable us to find the time that we REALLY need for our own spiritual development.

For me it's seeing the natural beauty in certain people. Not the annoying fundies on here who are just uneducated most of the time,I'm talking about child abusers and stuff like that.
You raise a good point too though. My faith does suggest that family loyalty is important but some of my family make that hard.

Learning a Celtic language (Welsh). This is so difficult for me. Eons ago when I was in high school I took four languages and did well--but I've gotten older and it's so hard for me now. I learn, then within days I'll forget everything. I keep trying. I figure that the Gods see and appreciate my efforts. If nothing else, they see that I'm stubborn.
Ummmmm....I mean determined.
Someday, I'll be able to do an entire ritual to honor them in Welsh.

Wiccan witch with Nordic leanings.
The hardest thing I had to learn was to thoroughly think things through before I went through with any kind of spell work. TO me that is a major part of the 'harming none" part of my beliefs. I take things much slower now, not giving into knee-jerk reactions when I feel that people have wronged me or my family. It has greatly enhanced my sense of peace.

I'm a Celtic Witch, but I do try to adhere to the standard of Harm None. Now, if someone has harmed me or my family (and friends) I'm always fighting an internal battle with Harm None vs You ought not have done that :)

For me it's letting things go. I've always held so tightly onto things. Be it emotions, material, even spiritual. I have to let my emotions flow and not keep them locked up so tightly. I've had to learn that my life was drivein more by ego than anything else and I'd started working on understanding that.

My most difficult is recognizing the divine in everything, including stupid people. I'm just not much of a "people person". That's my most difficult thing.
Blessed be.

I have always found it almost imposable to tolerate a bigot....
I need to learn to recognise the divine in all people and be more tolerant of others ...i am not their judge.

LOL i always considered a heathen something to be avoided - not to have principals.. surely that goes against what heathen means!!! hmm.. i will look it up, maybe i am wrong.
pagans and wiccans are not heathens.. to my mind anyway.
