I got a newborn (2 months) and me and my girlfriend have to work fulltime. I notice that child care is expensive. Any programs in California available that help parents out for child care?

Well my daughters a week old and earlier today my mom offered to take my daughter for a couple of hours ( sounds great right) so i can get a little bit of sleep. The thing is if my mom takes her for a few hours she wants to take her to her friends house. But her friends's house is extremly dirty ( i dont mean to sound mean). Her friend's house has ants & stuff. I REALLY dont want her to take my daughter there but then again my mom is really exited about it. How should i politely tell my mom thanks but no thanks. I dont know if it matters but i am only 15 ( dont worry im still in school) & my mom is kind of strict. But she's MY daughter & i dont want her to get sick. Any advice would be great thanks.
Oh my mom & her other friends have tried to tell the other friend ( the one with the dirty house) that she needs to clean her house but does she listen? No.. but she is a wonderful lady.

My baby sleeps a lot during the day
and wakes to feed and change during the night
but also stays up for an hour or two in between
is this normal? im guesing hell figure out between day and night eventually

but he cries for no reason, even when
hes fed, changed, and sometimes
isnt comfortable being held, and i dont know whats wrong. what do you do?

Its basically if hes not hungry, wet, or sleeping hes crying. Sometimes hes awake and looks around and stuff but other than that he just cries. I feel bad, but is this just newborn's are?

My cute as a button 6 week old daugher has acne on both cheeks, forehead and kind of on her scalp. They start as baby whitehead and turn to little red splotches. My wife is breast feeding so i don't think its a food allergy... am i making too much of this being a first time dad?

The routine infant circumcision rate for males here in the US peaked around 90% in the 1960's because earlier generations considered the foreskin to be a germ magnet and thought that circumcision was a cure-all for everything from masturbation to blindness to mental disorders. The rates have dropped to under 50% in some states today and are still declining due to the results of more comprehensive studies on the foreskin and its function in sexual health. With a near 50/50 chance for a son to be circumcised today, I'm curious.

Did you leave your son intact?

Before anyone gets mad and snaps at me, please read the entire question before you answer.

I just don't understand why women that insist on breast feeding in public get mad at the idea of having to breast feed their babies in the bathroom or hide it under a little blanket. What is the big deal with doing it so that no one else can see it? I agree that it is disgusting to eat in a pubic bathroom, but that is why breast pumps were invented. Also why don't the woman who are breast feeding use a brest pump at home and bring a bottle of breast milk with them?

I have heard of people a newborn baby to sleep in a laundry basket and dresser draws. Now would you do it or have you done it in the past. that to me is a little scary.

I just had a premature baby girl, I was 23weeks pregnant, my baby will be in the hospital until December, she just had a heart surgery and I will need to stay home with her until she turns one, she will need extra care and I have disability until October 25th. Do you know of anyone that works from home and makes decent money? Like insurance claims processing or something like that? Thanks, Laura

My 5 month old is on solids now. I have been feeding him about 1 tablespoon of rice cereal in the morning and 1/2 of a 2.5 container of veggies at night. He also has five 6oz bottles a day. Am on the right track with a feeding schedule. I know that there is no fixed schedule but I was curious if this seems about right. He has been a little constipated so sometimes I give him about 1-2 oz of diluted prune juice as well. Oh...he's a big boy weighing 18 lbs and is 28 inches long. Thanks for the help.

My daughters 4 months old and she can only stay away for 1 1/2 - 2 hrs at a time. She naps about 45min 3 or 4 times a day.
What does your baby do?
How old is he/she?
How long can he or she stay awake?
What are naps like?

and most likely I will be taking her out of school due to the cost and me possibley not going back to work (child care for 2 will be my entire paycheck every week and then some for a 2 yr old and a newborn). I was wondering 2 things, for working moms how do you afford day care/school for more than 1 child. Stay at home moms with more than 1, how do you handle a newborn and a 2 year old that always wants mommy and rarely naps!?!?!?! I feel as if I will dies if I keep her home because I won't get any sleep or be able to care for the newborn 100%. This is scarey the closer it gets! Ha ha, I am probably just worrying...I am sure things will be ok. I would just like to hear some of your opinions and get some advice!!

I am thinking about switching my daughter to organic baby formula. What is the difference? Is there a difference in the milk they use or what? I'd like to know if the regular baby formula has hormones in the milk and if the organic stuff is hormone/preservative free, etc. Any advice will help. Thanks!

For new moms: yesterday Jenny McCarthy and Holly Robinson Pete went public w/ their belief that vaccines caused thier son's autism. Oprah discussed a quote by the CDC, which for the first time, they admit they simply do not know and they are currently researching possible links between autism and vaccines.

Question: does this new information change your views of vaccines? Will you question giving your children vaccines? Have you done any research prior to giving your child vaccines?

I'm beginning to pack my bag for when i go into labor. Here is what I have so far:
3 pairs of panties
3 bras (as far as comfort, which is better nursing or maternity? I'm not sure about breastfeeding yet)
maxi pads
toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, & mouthwash
deodorant
washcloth & towel (2 ea.)
soap
nightgown (dont like hospital gowns)
loose pajamas (2, one to go home in)
socks (3) & slippers
snacks
baby blanket, outfit, & pacifier

Am I missing anything?

so my son is 4 1/2 months old and i wasnt planning on giving him cereal or baby food til 6 months because my family dr and his pediatrician recommended that. however, hes showing most of the signs that hes ready...

hes teething, when we're eating he stares at the food and reaches for it if its close enough, he eats about 32 oz of formula per day and has been for just over a month now, which does seem to keep him satisfied...

i dont know whether or not i should dive into giving him a little bit of cereal in the morning and at night. should i just wait until hes 6 months anyways, even though hes showing signs of being ready?

Did anyone watch Oprah yesterday? I managed to catch half of it after work. They (Jenny McCarthy and Holly Robinson Peete) were discussing vaccinations and the link to Autism (although the medical board says there is no clear link). I'm almost scared to give my son his next round of vaccinations, but then realize that I had my vaccinations as a child and am fine. The name of the chemical began with a "T".

It's so scary since Autism is on the rise....how did you know you were making the right decision to vaccinate or not to vaccinate your child?

I'm probably living in ignorance, but I always assumed that weaning was a reality easy thing to do - you start to give a baby foods, they eat it and they gradually take more and have a more varied diet!

Was this your experience?
How did weaning your baby go for you?

My son is coming up 10 weeks old. For the last week, after feeding him and winding him it looks like he is gagging, most of the time he is bringing up some milk but other times it looks like he is bringing his milk up and then swallowing it again.
I have spoken to health visitor and GP and they say its just what some babies do.
I am going back to doctors tomorrow as I think there is more to it.
Any advice from mothers whose babies have got reflux would be greatly appreciated.
