Completely normal. My son was the same way. My boyfriend's mom hadn't even seen his eyes open until he was 2 mo lod (and that was only because she was watching him all day while I was at work). All he seemed to do was sleep. Most babies don't coo until around 3 mo and laughing comes around 4-6 mo. My son is 6 mo old now and he just really started laughing a couple weeks ago, but he's very alert now and "talks" alot. He will do things at his own pace. Some babies are more laid back and sleep alot more at first. Don't worry, soon enough he will be awake longer and be more interactive (so much fun).

I'm jealous! I have a 7 week old boy who hates sleeping! Well he still does sleep a lot but when he is awake he fights going down for a nap or at night as he just wants to look at everything! However I know that my son is not in the norm for that, way more active than most babies his age. I am lucky though that even when he is awake he will amuse himself for up to almost 20 minutes before fussing so I do still get a chance to set him down and get stuff done before he wants to be on the go again. Plus he has figured out how to turn on his Fisher Price Aquarium toy, that's how I usually know he is awake, I hear the music.
Enjoy this peaceful time and remember sometimes when you wish for something and you get it, it's not what you really wanted. I wish my boy would sleep more sometimes as I don't get to nap since by the time I am falling asleep he is waking up again, ready to go for another couple hours.

it's absolutely normal. i have 3 boy's. its just well known fact that they sleep poop and eat. that's it.
its sooo normal that a worldwide joke is, "this is the time to get some sleep coz you'll never sleep again". lol
i remember not waiting till the time comes when he does something other then sleep. i use to stand over his crib and just watch him with a warm smile on his face.
so dont worry about this at all.
what you can do is get one of the thousand's of books out there that tell you what to expect at every stage, from new born till toddler.
good luck. oh and ps its absolutely normal to ask a million question's and worry all the time. that's a part of being a mom.
i remember bening soooo nervous being a first time mom that i use to take my baby to the hospital for the smallest reason's cus i was new at this whole mom thing. the nurses you to greet me by my first name. lol
dont worry everything is fine.

Congrats on your new bundle of joy. It is normal for him to sleep as much as 18 hours a day. Eating and pooping are the other activities they engage in. lol I wouldn't worry too much about anything unless by the age of 3 months things do not progress.

His brain is developing so sleep is essential. No worries, just give it some time and he will be cooing and laughing a lot. They go through stages like these.
