My baby is also 4 months old (almost, 2 days to go!)
She sleeps from midnight to 9 am every day, then has a nap from 11 am until 1 am, then she has some rice cereal (I'm not adding in all the bottles she has!!), then she naps again from about 3 pm to 5/6 pm, then stays awake, has some more rice cereal, bath and bed at midninght. Sometimes she has "mini-naps" in her pram or car seat if we go out too.
She can "do" lots! Smile, laugh, roll over (just!), hold her head up, sit for a few seconds unaided, hold things, chew things, hold her feet and is starting to have some bother with her teeth.
The longest she really stays awake in a day is 5/6 pm until midnight, 7 hours tops, but she does get very grumpy by the end of it. Don't be alarmed by this though, your little one is normal, my friend's baby is just like yours and there is nothing wrong! It all depends on their little systems and personal routines.
For the naps and at bed time, we try not to let her go to sleep on us or in our arms, we put her in her cot with the light off and give her a dummy if she cries. (We take it out as soon as she's asleep!!)
I hope I've helped a bit, don't worry, they're all different, we all are/were!

My baby just turned one. He takes 2, 2 hour naps a day. From 9-11am and 1-3 pm, and then goes to bed around 7-7:30 and sleeps until 7 am. He has been doing this for about 2 or 3 months now. At four months I would put him down every 1 to 2 hours of being awake ( he would let you know when it was time), and then just see how long he would go. Sometimes it would be 45 min. sometimes 1 to 2 hours. It is much easier now that he is on a concrete schedule.

She naps all the time because she's either getting too much sleep or not enough. It sounds like she's getting too much. Its more natural for a 4 month old to take maybe two naps, a couple hours long. Keep her awake longer by any means you can, for 15 minutes at a time until she cuts out one of her naps and sleep longer.
If shes just sleeping every couple hours its possible that she's not stimulated enough by her environment, shake things up a little. Get her some bright toys, take her outside and lay her in the grass and play with her, make sure she gets plenty of tummy time with fun toys, and play with her and talk with her. THey need stimulation to develop and use their minds and grow.
My son when he was her age took two naps, one two hour nap in the morning, and some times another 2 hour nap in the afternoon. He also slept all night, from 9pm to 8 am. He certainly was able to stay awake longer than 2 hours at a time.
RIght now he's 8 months, sleeps one long nap from 12-3 pm, and a short cat nap around 4-5 for about 20 minutes if he's had a busy day. Otherwise he's up walking and crawling around and playing.

My son is 11 months old, and had been waking at 7:30, napping from 9:30-11:30 and again from 1:30-3:30, then going to bed at 8:30. Today he dropped a nap, and will likely be sleeping from 1-4.

Our twins, girl and boy, are 9 months old.
They wake around 7:30 - 8 am. They usually take a short morning nap, like 45 min to an hour.
In the afternoon, after lunch, they take a longer nap, usually around 2 hours. Somedays they sleep a little more, some a little less. They go to bed for the night around 9 pm.
I'm not sure what you mean by "What are naps like?" They are sleeping...not much to it

My daughter is 5 months old
She stays awake about two- four hours in between naps and naps about an hour or two and has three naps a day. Its a struggle now since she gets out of her swaddle but in her swaddle she's asleep in minutes.
