my son was born 3 weeks ago. i've used rubbing alcohol to put on his umbilical cord to dry it out so that it will fall off...but it has still not fallen off!!! is there a way that the dr may have to surgically remove it? because we have tried everything! my daughter's umbilical cord fell off almost 1 week after she was born. i think its just strange that it hasn't fallen off yet! serious answers only please

What was it like when you first saw your baby?

What is it like to have a newborn? What are your days like? I am 11 weeks pregnant and even though I know I have this little baby growing inside me, the idea that I'll one day hold it in my arms and be a mother seems unreal to me. This baby will be my first and I'm looking forward to it so much! I just wonder what it's like to have the baby. Please tell me your story.

ok i have a 6 week old, i live in iquitos peru and i have taken her to the doctor... she has had problems pooping since she was 2 weeks old and it is getting worse, she strains so hard constantally and cries because of it all the time. when it comes out though it is soft and normal. the doctor said she had lazy intestines the first time, i took her back yesterday and she was so swollen he was really worried, so he tried to get her to poop using a thermometer and she wouldnt so he ended up giving her an enema... he said she had something wrong with her intestines and then sent her home with gas medicine .
it helps with gas but this morning she is straining just as hard and is swollen up again. i have given her glycerin suppositorys i have given her pedialyte, i walk with her all the time, i rub her tummy with oil, i move her legs i have tried a q-tip , the pharmacy gave me medicine to help her go and it didnt work..i dont know what to do.i am thinking about taking her to the states

My husband and I are expecting a son. I strongly dislike typical boy clothing and like unique, gender neutral items instead. I hate all that blue cheap cotton stuff with boats and cars all over it. So I've been unique buying clothing at nice stores for our baby boy.

Well, my mother in law showed up at our house with a HUGE bundle of run of the mill baby boy clothing complete with blue pants sets with cars, trains, sail boats and inane sayings like daddy's little boy on T-shirts. In short, my personal nightmare. Stuff I would never put my son in. I was gracious and thanked her for all the clothes thinking I could just hide them in the closet when she said more were on the way and she was going to continue to buy more stuff for her new grandson. HOW DO I AVOID THIS? Weeks earlier I showed her all the clothes I bought so she has a very clear image of our taste. I love this woman and I know she's only being generous but I really, really, really hate those kinds of clothes.

My little girl is 10 and half months old and mastered the art of sitting confidently about three weeks ago, however she makes no attempt to move, I know all babies are different I have three other children all who were at least crawling and pulling to standing by this age however this little one is adopted by us, I know some babies will skip the crawling stage and use other methods to get around such as bottom shuffling, pushing backwards, rolling etc but she wont do any, if I sit her on the floor she just stays where she is, she cant pull herself up and cant go from lying to sitting she seems to find everything quite difficult so I'm wondering now if it is something I should be worried about, although physically she looks healthy and is well her mum didnt take care of her whilst pregnant and drank too much and took drugs so maybe this is having some effect on her development but I just wonder when I should be concerned?

I cut down my son's feeds to 1 and day until he cut it out himself and then I reduced the amount I expressed until my breasts felt empty. Then a few days later they were full again! I've been to the Dr but he is loath to prescribe as the drugs are really strong. Its so painful I really don't know what to do - please help!

I am considering putting my child into care so I can go back to work a couple of days a week and was wanting to know if anyone knew of any studies done into the effects this has on a child or to get personal opinions from those parents who have their children in care. Did your child take time to settle in and what age they started. What are the positive and negative effects on your child?

I'm not talking about the women who couldn't nurse, just those who could and opted not too. Just curious. The AAP now recommends women breastfeed their children for a MINIMUM of one year but yet I hear of most giving up in the first couple of months or not trying at all. Do you think it's because us Americans are more selfish than women in other countries or something? Shouldn't we put the best interests of our babies before ourselves?
