Croup is an infllamation of the throat area. It sounds as if you are doing everything right. Keep the humidifier on at all times, and in whatever room she is in. The second night is often the worse. Keep an open ear when she sleeps. If she is "barking" and has stridor (the weezy inhalation sound) call your ped. right away. My daughter had croup twice when she was an infant. It was the scariest experience. Our pediatrician prescribed Orapred (a steroid) for her. It openned the passageway immediately and made her more comfortable. You may want to get a prescription for this, and just have it on hand in case she has trouble breathing.

*IF* it is cold where you live you may consider taking her outside, well bundled of course, cold air helps. If that helps her consider dressing her very warmly and keeping her bedroom window open.
There is a vapor rub for toddlers that is safe. DO NOT use camphor on a child and I wouldn't even use it in the humidifier just in case. It can be fatal if ingested, and even if too much were absorbed through the skin.
I don't know if a 7 month old would take it but a "tea" of ginger, garlic and a pinch of cayenne is useful for chest congestion and sore throat. You could leave the cayenne out. Normally I add honey, which of course you can't give a 7month old.
Licorice root is also a powerful expectorant, but I am unfamiliar with dosages in small children. Consult a naturopath or herbalist if giving more than an amount that would normally be consumed.

sounds like your baby may have asthma. I have 2 kids with asthma. It started with croup. Steroids and a breathing treatment are used for treating asthma. Did they say anything at the hospital? Take her to an asthma doctor right away for a workup. My 6 yr old has it very bad, a common cold turns into a major crisis and she has had pneumonia 2xs since Christmas. It is nothing to fool around with. Regarding the croup, sitting in a very hot, steamy bathroom helps. Sitting outside in the freezing cold also helps.

You can't do much more than you are. The propping her up when she sleeps is one of the best things. my doctor also had me dissolve a peppermint in a bottle of warm water and give this to my son at bedtime. The peppermint helps to open the airway and it also soothes the throat from the coughing. i also would set my don in his carseat with a few play things, while I took a shower, the steam from the hot shower helped him breathe easier. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Sarah,
Having her sleep in the car seat sitting up will help her breath better. Give her lots of love and cuddles, she is a miserable sweet thing. Not too much formula, it creates more mucas, try more juices and flat 7 -up. Don't push food so much fo a couple of days and by all means get a re-check at the Dr. when you need to. Prayer is good too.

Another good thing for it is to turn the shower on hot and let the bathroom fill up with steam...take her in and let her breathe it.
Two out of three of my girls has had croup.

The steam from the shower works, even a change in temperature will do it............just take your child outside for a few minutes.

Just take her to the doctor. Give her the prescribed Meds and wait it out. Sorry this all you can do.
