Newborn & Baby - February 2007

My child is just over eight months old right now. She has been standing on her own since five and a half months old, and she can crawl extremely well. She can halfway "cruise" but not very well. I would rather not put her in the walker, as she is mobile enough on her own, and I have heard so many conflicting stories as to whether or not walkers are safe. So my question is this.
Walkers themselves, are they safe or not? I realize she will need extreme supervision while in the walker, but I have been told that walkers can hurt the ankles, legs, etc. and teach bad walking habits, in addition to putting excess strain on the muscles. Is this true, or not?

Thank you all so much!
Justin

How do you start feeding it meat and stuff?

I started jogging when my baby was about 2mths old. Before that I was able to pump 4-5oz every morning. I also breastfeed him exclusively. Soon after my jogs, I notice I could only pump max.2.5oz and my breasts became soft and 'empty'. I stopped jogging altogether and can pump back 3-4oz. My sis told me that jogging burns away the calories that are meant for the milk production. Is that true?

I haven't lost any more weight since then and I'm wondering how can I lose my weight without decreasing my milk supply?

We went to the hospital and the doctor said it was a normal rsv infection. He didn't prescribe anything and told us to give him plenty of rest and fluids. His temp go up and down, around 38 - 40 C. Is it normal for a fever to last that long if it's RSV related?

Went back to work when my son was 2 months old, I tandem pump every 4 hours for 10-15 mins (atleast 4 x a day). Was getting 6-8oz at a time up until last week. Now I'm lucky to get 2-4oz total. My son is still nursing 3+ x's during the evening and once in the early am and seems more than satisfied, but I'm not making enough expressed milk for his day care........I also have had a period every month...I thought I wasn't suppose to? Help!

I was wondering if any mothers can give me some advice on whether or not it would be okay to start her on whole milk already. She is already eating practically everything we eat, just smaller pieces and portions. Would this cause any harm?

She hasn't had any issues with eating it and she really likes it. So is it ok. I was reading on another question that i posted that people said that they can't have meat until 8 months. Thanks

My daughter is 7 months and breastfeed. What can I use to get ride of the stain from when she leaks (we change clothes about 5 times a day due to this and now everything is stained) and when she explodes when I change her dippie. I am on a budget so those nice stain removers are not that handy. Right now I fill up the bathroom sink with cold water and wash them with dish soap and then leave them to soak untill I go to the laundry mat. (yes no washer either). And they still come out stained Any ideas?

And instead of toys or clothes, the parents would prefer money to put up a savings account/educational fund in the baby's name. The baby has everything she needs up to about a year, from gifts from the baby shower

He still wakes up at least every 3 hours. He gets 3 meals of baby food throughout the day plus however much breastfeeding he wants. He usually only takes one nap during the day, for around an hour and a half. And he goes to bed around 8pm. He sleeps in his own room in his own bed. We have some soft music playing. And he still won't sleep through the night. The longest he sleeps, which is rare, is 5 hours straight. What am I doing wrong? What can I do to help him figure this out? I let him cry himself to sleep sometimes at nap time during the day, but its hard to do that in the middle of the night because it wakes up his older (23 month) brother and his dad, who doesn't like the cry it out method. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

I started my daughter on solids at 5.5 months of age. Before this, she was exclusively breastfed. The first food we tried was bananas. I wanted her to get used to eating solids before I gave her something that she wouldn't like, and risk turning her off to all solids. She worked up to eating one of those Gerber First Foods in the plastic pack things per day. After about a week, I noticed her stool changed- it was more solid, as was her food. But it seemed harder than with my first child, and they came less frequent. She was indeed straining, and sometimes wouldn't produce a bowel movement.

After a trip to the Dr. Sears website, I found that foods like bananas and applesauce can constipate babies. . It said that peaches, pears, prunes, or plums should help get things moving, so I fed her some prunes to empty her out. That worked, so I cut out the bananas and applesauce, and replaced them with peaches and pears, and gradually worked in peas.
