Why on earth are you giving a 1 week old Apple Juice!!? The baby's digestive system isn;t fully mature at this age and needs to be catered to.
Are you breastfeeding? The first week you produce colstrum which is a heavily water based breast milk to help flush the babies system... they pass merconium (the black tary poo) with in 24 hours. then the baby should poo 6-8 times in a 24 hour period..
What makes you think the baby is constipated?
What you can do to help her is masage her tummy in clockwise circles with a little oil or baby powder ... and also place her on her back and do "bicycle type" motions with her legs.. this will help getting her digestive system moving... You can also put a little Vaseline on a rectal thermometer and take her temp (
not that she will have one) this will stimulate her anus and help get things going.. However if she is producing 6-8 dirty diapers in 24 hours i don;t think you have anything to worry about.
Please don;t give your baby any more juice until she is older.

First off.. it is okay to give her a little bit of diluted apple juice if she is having trouble having a bm. That is exactly what my doctor said to do when my daughter had the same problem. But she could just be adjusting to digesting. It is normal for new babies to not have a BM for up to a week sometimes. Constipation in newborns is described as hard stools like little rocks. Just keep on feeding her on a schedule and she will go.

Unlike the other responder, I wouldnt jump in on the "there is something wrong with her milk digestion" wagon. My daughter got like this frequently because babies bodies are made for breast milk, not formula. I had twins and they were bottle fed, and my baby got constipated alot, and my ped told me dark caro syrup mixed with water. just a little bit, teaspoon to a 4 oz bottle. it works in a jiffy! Good luck!

I don't recommend giving her juice and water... she just needs formula now, or you'll really mess up her eating schedule.

All three of my children had the same problem. Ultimately it was determined they were unable to digest milk-based formula, and I had to use a soy formula. With all three I tried several different brands, and they all three had to be on Isomil liquid concentrate. You have to thin it with water, but that was the easiest for them to digest. (No, the powdered wasn't the same for them....)

Good luck.. and get your pediatrician in on this process. They know you and your baby better than anybody here.
