I started jogging when my baby was about 2mths old. Before that I was able to pump 4-5oz every morning. I also breastfeed him exclusively. Soon after my jogs, I notice I could only pump max.2.5oz and my breasts became soft and 'empty'. I stopped jogging altogether and can pump back 3-4oz. My sis told me that jogging burns away the calories that are meant for the milk production. Is that true?

I haven't lost any more weight since then and I'm wondering how can I lose my weight without decreasing my milk supply?

It's possible that you can't. No matter what I do, I cannot take off my baby weight while I'm breastfeeding. The moment my first self-weaned, the weight melted off with no effort. Now I'm nursing number two. Even after 15 months, I've hung onto most of the extra weight. Excess exercise always dries up my milk, too. It's OK, we'll be a little rounder while we're breastfeeding our babies. We'll look back at the nursing years and realize how short they were and how worthwhile it was to give our babies the best, not to mention make it easier on ourselves. Kudos to you.

How old is your baby now? It is quite possible that your supply is fine, but it has just regulated to what your baby demands. Babies are more efficient than pumps at getting what they.

Also, you need about 500 calories for milk production. If you are burning too many calories, then it could have an effect on your milk.

You could eat two servings of oatmeal per day to boost your supply and then jogging shouldn't take as much a toll on you.

You need to consume an extra 500 calories per day when breastfeeding in order to maintain your supply so my guess is that your sister was right. Try doing toning exercises (yoga and pilates would both fit the bill) to take off excess weight as opposed to cardio. Make sure you're drinking plenty of clear fluids and eat healthy snacks frequently (every 2-3 hours). Just because you're consuming more calories per day does not mean you can't lose weight. Make sure the snacks you're eating are as nutritious as possible so that you're not eating empty calories. Breastfeeding alone actually burns between 500-700 calories per day.

Yup, she's right. Anything aerobic will deplete your milk supply, because it burns calories. Try yoga. Check and see if there are any mom and baby yoga classes in your area.
