Before you tell me to just "see the doctor" let me mention that we are going to the doctors in 2 hours.
My 5 yo daughter brought home a virus from school. It started as a cough with runny nose, fever etc.
The baby has been coughing for about 3 days and today its pretty bad. When he is sleeping the coughing is at a minimum, but once he wakes its horrible. I have noticed his breathing rate has become somewhat rapid. The cough is not croup sounding at all, its a very wet cough. I have a stethescope and can hear some "wheezing", but since I am not a doctor I can't be sure its wheezing and not just phlem in the throat. He is not quite lethargic, but very non-engergetic. He is eating, but not a lot. He is sleeping about 18+ hours a day.
Given the nasty cough, does this sound like it could be RSV? Maybe just a cold or bronchitis? If it is, what should I expect for treatment? I have had problems with my oldest when she was a baby, but its been a long time and she never had RSV.

I see on all of these baby shows, whenever a woman gives birth in the hospital, they always hand her the baby with some kind of clear cream spread across the baby's eyes, keeping them shut. What is that stuff and what is it supposed to do? My daughter was born last year, and she didn't have anything like that put on her eyelids. Is it only an American thing?

The day before yesterday I started combining my breastmilk with his formula in a bottle. That's how I been feeding him. Now I noticied that he hasn't had a bowel movement for more than 24 hrs. He's passing gas...and they really really stink. And his farts NEVER stink. The poor thing can't really sleep...he wakes up after 20 mins. What should I do? Should I stop the mixing the milk with the formula? What medicine is the best? HELP!!!

It may sound like a silly question to some, but my sister says that you can't use baby wipes when your baby is first born. However, with all of the new Sensitive and Extra Sensitive wipes out on the market I would think that those would be okay! Does anyone know first hand, or used any of these new wipes on their babies?

How much baby food or cereal does your 6 month old eat? I've read all kinds of amounts, some seem like a lot and some hardly anything. I was just wondering what the rest of you do :)

My Sons name is Veursace Marquse. Spoken vor-sace mar-cuse.
For those who think i misspelled his name its not i knew nothing about versace before i named him and it is not spoken the same either or spelled the same. I feel their is nothing wrong with giving your child a unique name and not falling into societys cracks of uniformity. so no hes not a regular dick or bob name. so i would love to hear more feed back.

What's the methods of preparing food for an 8mth old?

I know the kind of food they eat and I know you get it ready made. But How do you make it at home. (home made food).

Some people told me that they just boil the vegetables. But what else. Like when you make porridge, Minced meat spaghetti Bolognese mashed etc..

Please be specific.
Thanx a lot..

My son is confidently walking around the furniture and standing alone at times. We have been advised to buy a soft shoe by 1 firm and a boot by another. What would you recommend?

I am not giving any scenarios for this one. I also am not looking for the arguement that breastfeeding is best.
What I want to know is which you would choose and why it would be the logical choice for you?
If you chose to breastfeed, how long would you do it (till what age)?
And regardless of which you chose (bottle or breast), would you consider pumping as an alternative?

I've heard cute ones like "having one was so much fun, we thought we'd have another one" - things like this. It's a first baby and a boy. I'd also like a special invatation for those out-of-towners that will not be able to attend.

To answer a previous question: I am asking these questions for everyones opinion. All the women in my senarios are based on REAL women and the ways they raise their children. Anything I add beyond the base question are things I have observed in their children. At this point, I don't agree or disagree with how they raise their children, as my ways are different. And I have been switching the women around going from extreme to extreme, so woman A is not always Woman A.

Who's opinion do you support?
Woman A - She always stays home, never drives anywhere. If she needs to go anywhere with her child, she uses the stroller. She is a stay-at-home mom and has very little need to travel.
Woman B - She always drives where she needs to go. She averages 2-5 hours a day in her car, taking her child with her. She works an hour from home and the babysitter is in the same town she works in. The additional time in the car is for her enjoyment of traveling.
Child age 3-6 mo.

First of all, thanks for reading this. I know its long, but I need to expose all the facts.
My son is 3-1/2 months old.
He is exclusively breast fed.

He would ‘go to bed’ between 8 -9 pm, sleep for two to three hours and then wake up ready to play. I mean it, he was ready to play, no human force would make him go back to bed.
We’ve tried:
Ignoring him… leave him in his crib to cry. (I could not and don’t want to let him cry for more than 10 min) No success.
Pick him up and rock him back to sleep. No success.
Nurse him. He’d kind of fall sleep in my arms at the breast but don’t even try to put him down. He’d go hysterical! Off course, no success.
Pick him up, walk him around the apt. He’ll start showing sings of being tired, but he wont fall sleep.
Finally I turn on the lights and play with him until his next feeding. (midnight or 1 am) Then, he’ll go to sleep until 8 am or so when he wakes up to feed and right away back to sleep until 11 or noon.

I’ve tried keeping him up after his 8 am feeding, which he has no problem with, and regulating his naps. But that doesn’t make any difference… we’ll have the same routine at bedtime. Regardless of bedtime which I have modified too.
It seems clear to me that he is taking a nap at bed time.
But I have no idea how to change this. If I’ve even tried letting him take a late nap (around 6pm) still, no difference, at bed time (either 9pm or 11 pm) he’ll sleep for a couple of hours and wake up FULLY AWAKE and ready to play.
Remember also that he is no hungry (I’ve tried feeding him)

My youngest daughter is 6 months old today and she is still colic. The only advice that I was given to me from my Dr was to hold her and cuddle because thats what colic babies like. I have tried Gripe water (doesnt work) running a vaccumm(works) but i cant keep the vacum running all day long.....lol. I've tried colic tablets from the health food store. I have tried everything. I even changed her formula.
Some days I just cry cause I dont know whats wrong with her and she cries for hours on end 4-6 hrs straight. I am so tired, I dont remember the last time i had 4 hrs sleep straight. Could there maybe be something eternally wrong with her? maybe she isnt colic. My Dr said Colic usually goes away after the 3rd month.
I feel so helpless that I can't help my daughter. I want her be be comfortable and not in any pain, I feel that she is cramping alot cause she pushing her little legs up to her belly. My Dr isnt much help.
