Yeah, i was giving my son ice cream at about 7 months. I would hold the cone to him and he would pull it to his mouth. He was teething at the time so i think that this was a great help to him. If they are not used to lumpy foods, avoid ice creams with bits in. My son is 1 and has choc chip now, he loves it.

My daughter has had ice cream and cake at a friend's birthday party and she was fine. Sugar isn't that big of a deal since it's only occasionally and in small amounts.

To the chick at the top: No dairy until a year? What exactly is formula then? It contains milk, which is a dairy product. As is cheese, etc.

My 6 month old had vanilla ice cream before and she was fine. they can have some dairy product, just not too much. my health visitor said I could give my daughter porridge for breakfast. She said I could use full fat milk to make it.
I think haveing some ice cream can't be bad then :)
My daughter loves it

In short - NO. it's full of sugar, which should be avoided as much as possible, but also, babies little tummies would find it hard to digest. ice cream is dairy, of course, and babies under one year should not have milk which is not breast / formula - they can't cope with it.
it's better not to get your child used to very sugary fatty treats, it will probably save a lot of nagging and toothache later!

Yeah absolutely - the sugar isnt a problem as you wouldnt be giving them a huge adult sized bowl full. Most babies that age absolutely love the taste and texture.

Try frozen yoghurt as an alternative - my babies loved it x

ps: no dairy until 12 months?? Rubbish - ALL babies need dairy when they're being weaned.
