Can you use baby wipes on newborns?

It may sound like a silly question to some, but my sister says that you can't use baby wipes when your baby is first born. However, with all of the new Sensitive and Extra Sensitive wipes out on the market I would think that those would be okay! Does anyone know first hand, or used any of these new wipes on their babies?

I was giving baby wipes by the nurses when my daughter was born. If they weren't ok, I don't think a hospital would be condoning the use of them!
5 and a half years later I still have them readily available for anyone!
And believe me with some of the things that newborns can make in their diapers, I wouldn't leave home without them!!!!

I have used baby wipes on both my children (3yrs & 5yrs) with no problems. I suggest using something like Pampers Sensitive or Xtra Sensitive. The wipes are so soft that they feel like Kleenex.
If you still have concerns you may feel better rinsing the wipes in a bowl of lukewarm water before using them.
Also, definitely buy a wipe warmer! I bought one for my son when he was born and still use it for my daughter. It keeps the wipes warm for baby. Imagine someone sticking a cold cloth to your warm behind!! They can be bought just about anywhere for $15-$20.

I used baby wipes from day one. The only time I did not use them was when he got a bad diaper rash. Then I had to use a wet washcloth. You can buy the ones w/o alcohol and sensitive etc. That is why they call them BABY wipes. What in the world did your sister use? Wipe warmers are great too.

Any time you're using something new on a baby, you want to watch for a reaction. But I would think that, in general, a sensitive baby wipe would be fine. Before wipes, mom's used washcloths with soap - how could wipes be any worse?

Yes you can use wipes on newborns, however they may react to them. As may older babies. You can try wipes, preferably without perfume however sensitive and extra sensitive have no legal definition and are generally just advertising ploys.

Your other option is to use plain water. Water can be kept warm in a wipe warmer and you can use good cloths, good quality paper towel or at some drugstores you can get hospital grade paper napkins/paper clothe.

We buy kirkland signature brand because they are really cheap and we ALWAYS, WHEN WE ARE HOME, fill a little bowl up with warm water to rinse the chemicals off the wipes before using them. So you have the convienence of throwing them out(really nice for the poopy diapers)and they are gentle on baby's bottom. You can even soak some ahead of time and the wipes get even softer from sitting in the warm water for twenty minutes or so.

Wipes are positive, yet save your self some grief and get the hypo-allergenic wipes. That way in the experience that your infant has incredibly delicate pores and skin you will no longer have a gaggle of supplies which you won't be in a position to apply. We continually used a moist cloth whilst our son had an exceptionally messy bowel flow, in view which you could bypass by using a million/2 a container of wipes extremely getting all of that wiped off.

Being a mom I've used baby wipes from the beginning and being a neonatal nurse we also use them. When I gave birth the hospital even sent me home with a pack of pamper brand baby wipes. I don't know where your sis got her info but as far as I know its ok. Now, I'll admit some people are scared to so they use cotten balls with baby oil on them but I think as long as you wipe right and moniter your baby's skin then its fine.

Never heard of that one. I have 3 boys and a baby on the way and I always used baby wipes on them. They even give them to you at the hospital.

I've used baby wipes on both my boys when they were just born, in fact the hospital gave me some to use. My boys never had a problem or anything. Good luck!
