We have a front and back double because the 2 yr old doesn't like to share space with the 5 mo. old. If you are speaking of twins, I'd try the side by side for bonding. Side by side are also easier if you like to go for walks outside. Front and back are easier for manuvering and control.

We have a Graco Duo Glider - I highly suggest this stroller! It allows for two Graco Snug Rides (?) Infant seats to attach to it. And it has a bassinet feature in the back seat.

All standard side by side strollers are 30 inches of less, small enough to fit through a standard doorway.
Tandem (front and back) strollers are extremely difficult to push on anything that is not a tile floor. Pushing a tandem on carpet, grass, or any non smooth surface will be very difficult. In addition, for proper weight distribution and ease of steering, the heaviest child should be in the back. That means the older child who wants the cool view instead has to look around his sibling's head, and the baby is too far from you to hand back a binky or toy.
A side by side is easy to push and fits through any door you are likely to encounter. Both children are within reach and have the same view. You will also not disturb one by reclining the other, or have one kicking the seat of the child in front. Plus a human arm is not long enough to hold open a door AND push a tandem stroller through it, a side by side is easy to push when holding the door.

However, side by sides are often more expensive. Cheap tandems abound (graco, cosco, evenflo) whereas you are unlikely to find a "top of the line" tandem (maclaren, zooper, inglesina). Likewise, there are very few mass market cheap side by sides. Side by sides require better contruction, thus are more expensive.

The only plus to a tandem is that you can normally use an infant car seat with it. This is of little concern to me as I never pushed my child around in his car seat, but if someone really wants the travel system aspect, a tandem is basically the only option (save the Combi Twin Savvy EX and the 2007 Peg Perego Aria, both of which are pretty crappy strollers).

Hello,
My personal experience is that it depends on how you plan on using the double stroller:
The obvious advantage of tandem strollers' narrow design is that it's easier to go through doors and narrow store aisles, which is a great plus when running errands. The key disadvantage is that they're somewhat harder to manoeuver. If you go for a tandem stroller, pick one where the kids can face eachother otherwise they don't interact quite as much if they're one behind the other.

The advantage of side-by-side strollers is that the kids can see each other and that you can manoeuver them more easily. Getting through narrow doors or aisles can be a challenge at times though! Some side by side strollers also tend to be lighter than the tandem style.

I personally ended-up buying a Maclaren double stroller. I recommend looking at the new Maclaren Twin Triumph 2007 (http://www.tinyride.com/Maclaren-Twin-Triumph-2007-P1833.aspx) which is a bargain for the quality and low weight (only 21lbs!).

I love my BOB revolution side by side jogger for running and going to the park (and the terrain of the park). Theres no way Id want to take the two kids to the mall, plus you cant even get the smallest of single strollers thru gymboree. What I also found handy when they were littler, was putting one in the bjorn, and one in a single stroller. Id say get a nice double side by side, and a really cheap single and carrier. Also check out used for all the them.

We're actually the parents of year-old triplets, and we've had both types of strollers. In our experience, the side-by-side strollers are easier to maneuver than the ones where all the seats are in-line. Here's a cool site we found... http://www.mostlymultiples.com/best-stroller-test-safety-reviews.html ... it has a test you can take to determine which stroller might best meet your needs. Good luck!

I really don't have experience in strollers but all i know is that i wouldn't want to be the kid sitting in the back. So i would suggest a side by side one. Good Luck!!!

Whatever one will fit in your trunk. We drive a Galant and an Escort. Both have kind of small trunks. Most double strollers won't fit in the trunk of the Escort. But there is a Graco side by side stroller that fits. I forget the rest of the Graco information but it's side by side, each side has it's own sun shade and each side will recline so that you can have one side up and one side down or both up or down.

The front & back double strollers are easier to manuver in small places like store aisles.
Good Luck.
