Coughing serves a purpose. It clears the lungs. You should only treat a cough if it is dry and causing a sore throat or keeping you (or baby in this case) awake.
/you should also not treat low-grade fevers--they fight infection. Treating a low-grade fever (tylenol or motrin) can actually make the infection last longer because you are interfering with your body's natural infection fighting process!
Try elevating her the head of her bed, a hunidafier, Vick's baby rub and fix baby some warm drink (weather it's milk or tea or even warm water) to sip on.
Lots of hugs and kisses help too! :)

Call the Ped and see if you just need to let the virus run its course. I know it is hard. Studies have shown that the over the counter cough meds have no or very little effect on the younger pediatric poplulation. Over the counter gough and cold medications are associated with potentially serious side effects. Be very careful if you should decide to give your daughter these meds. If you should get a prescription from your doctor DO NOT use a combination of over the counter with perscriptions. This has been proven to be fatal for some infants.
Check with the doctor. Colds, coughs and upper respiratiory infections are common childhood illnesses. The average child will suffer from 10-12 colds a year and each can last 10-14 days. Most kids will just improve on there on. The Dr. will determin if there is fluid in the lungs or if antibiotics are needed.
I know it is tought hearing the little one with such a bad cough! I was suffering just looking and hearing my daughter when she was sick and she is 4 months.
Try steam heat from the shower and get a humidifier
drink fluids for possible sore throat
Good luck.

If it's been more than a week since yuor last doctor's visit go back and see him again. I f you can't afford this..... and there are time s when we can't..........try a vaporizer. haven't got one keep a pan of water boiling on the stove . Also sitting in the bathroom with her while the showere runs. Vicks chest rub helps a lot too. And you can rub just a tiny little bit directly under her nose. Once the sinuses are clear, the lungs won't spasm and make her cough. also try little noses saline spray you can use it as drops or hold her upright and spray. it helps dry up the gunk thats cusing the problem in the first place. you can even look up on the internet for directions to make yuor own saline spray.
The cough medicine is a last resort, because it is so easy to over medicate.

I would start by calling the Dr. you may need an expectorant or a decongestant. But in the meantime I always use Pediacare. I found it worked better for coughs than other brands. And make sure not to give medicine that is not needed...like tylenol for a cough, that's unecessary, just stick with plain old cough meds.

My daughter (age 4) just had a really bad cough. Nothing worked. We had to wait it out for two weeks. If your baby simply has a cough that is producing phlegm then she should be fine. If it's a deep chest cough that doesn't produce anything, it could be croup. However, I am not a doctor, just a mother with three kids who has been through this type of thing. But, if you are at all concerned, I would take her to your pediatrician.

Really, no cough suppressants work very well for anyone. If it continues to get bad, your doctor might prescribe something, but most of the time the name of the game is to keep her comfortable.
