Before you tell me to just "see the doctor" let me mention that we are going to the doctors in 2 hours.
My 5 yo daughter brought home a virus from school. It started as a cough with runny nose, fever etc.
The baby has been coughing for about 3 days and today its pretty bad. When he is sleeping the coughing is at a minimum, but once he wakes its horrible. I have noticed his breathing rate has become somewhat rapid. The cough is not croup sounding at all, its a very wet cough. I have a stethescope and can hear some "wheezing", but since I am not a doctor I can't be sure its wheezing and not just phlem in the throat. He is not quite lethargic, but very non-engergetic. He is eating, but not a lot. He is sleeping about 18+ hours a day.
Given the nasty cough, does this sound like it could be RSV? Maybe just a cold or bronchitis? If it is, what should I expect for treatment? I have had problems with my oldest when she was a baby, but its been a long time and she never had RSV.

It sounds like it could possibly be RSV, tis the season you know. My daughter also had bronchitis just a while back, so I guess that's pretty common right now too. Glad to hear you are on top of things and already going to the Dr. that's certainly the best route to go when you can't be sure what's wrong. You may or may not have your child on a nebulizer, my daughter was on one for a long time after her bronchitis, it's common to put them on it as a precautionary measure to keep the lungs clear. Depending on the diagnosis he'll probably have antibiotics for about 10 days also. Good luck to you and I hope they get feeling better soon!!
