Are you in the U.K? If so go to any clarks stockists they do fantastic light, soft and flexible shoes for the early walking stages, I went for little shoes for my little boy when he was first learning to walk..... boots just seemed to be far too heavy. In fact he's now 2 1/2 and can only just manage to walk in boots!!

Go to Stride Rite and buy a pair of shoes there. When they first start walking, Stride RIte's are the best. They can be pricey, but I always bought shoes there when my daughter was young and they've lasted a lot longer then the cheaper brands. Now that she's getting older we still buy shoes there, but also trendy ones wherever.

I think boots used to be recommended a long time ago. Now they recommend the soft shoes so that babies feet can get strong. We didn't buy any hard shoes for both of our kids.

I would go with a shoe. You need a high top so the baby has ankle support. I go to Irving shoe store to buy my 13 month old shoes.

I always prefered a soft shoe as its easier on the foot and allows free natural movement and its more gentle on the bones, but in saying that, I always had a lot of time out of shoes for my lil un for development purposes as well... buts its entirely up to you

I always recommend that the parents I work with buy SmartFit shoes at Payless. They have the best arch support for children's feet, better than the expensive brands.

you want to form your childs arch well at a early age. having hightop shoes or boots will help to support your childs ankles as they learn to walk. something like a high top with cushioning which can provide your baby with cushioning for his pad of his foot and support for his ankles. and its okay to throw in some cute shoes once in a while because some baby walking shoes i've seen look kike frankenstein shoes.

I've always bought their shoes from Stride Rite, the ones for new walkers. Trusted brand, been around for years. May cost a little extra, but isn't your kid worth it.
