I often see 2 extremes of parents. The first I dub the "helicopter parent". They maintain absolute control over their kids. They must know what they are doing, where they are, and who they are with 24/7. They impose a dictatorship and never try to empathize with their kid. It is like a Stalinist Russia inside their house.

Then, you have the other kind. The kind that doesn't care if their kid isn't home for several days. They don't care if their kid does whatever. They just don't care. This is sort of like The Netherlands. No laws or rules.

Why can't there be a balance? A parent who cares and maintains order but allows a decent amount of resonable freedom? Parents do you strike a balance?

This lady at the daycare brought her 7 month old in today as I was dropping off my son, and I over heard her talking about how is is being spacey andnot feeling well with a fever an stuff. She said to give the medicine in the bag and never told the caregiver the amount, so I said I will look at it (after the lady left), cause my son is the same weight, just to make an estimate, well, it was cold and allergy medicine for ages 6+, I told the caregiver NOT to give that t the little boy and she agreed with me, but she took the little boystemp and it was 102; so she called her to come ge him. The thing is, why on earth would someone give their infant that medcineand not go to the doctor? I am so upset about this I don't even know what to do.

She doesn;t even get him out of the carseat or say bye or anything either, like in and out, really fast, and it makes me so upset, she even did this on his firstday of care a couple weeks ago.

I don't know what to do?

We are pretty sure we want to name her Charlotte.... we just found out we are having a girl..... I've noticed that Charlotte isnt popular at all over in the U.S. but it's ranked # 12 in the UK!!!! My 1 year old's name is Savannah.... so I thought that those two named would go well together. Thanks for your input..

Where is the best place to get my son's first birthday pics done? I am not looking for perfection, just good pics at a good price. I have never taken him for professional pics. I was thinking Kiddie Kandids, Penny's, or Sears. I have had different opinions from friends. Also his birthday is in the middle of December, when should I have them done? I know its going to busy with Christmas.

My son is 4 and is going through a hitting phase. He hits me i'd say about 5x a day average. And he hits hard...he has bruised me on more than one occasion. He doesn't see violence, at least what i can shelter him from...no one in the home hits, and he isnt cared for outside the home at all. I have tried hitting back, but it just doesnt seem appropriate to hit him back while saying don't hit. I have taken his toys away (this is easy since even though he has many toys, only really plays with 2 favorites, so its a very effective punishment to take them away), but thats generally when the hitting occurs. If he is disobeying me, i give him 2 warnings and then he gets punished, wether its timeout or taking toys away. He hits as soon as i say he is going to be punished. I have had to on more than one occasion physically restrain him on the floor to prevent him from attacking me. He gets a lot of positive attenttion...i just dont know what to do about this...any ideas?
