Pregnancy & Parenting - 30 October 2007

Hi,
Tomorrow I'll be 26 weeks pregnant with my first baby. It's a boy. Anyway I have a question on these different topics even though the last one is far off lol:

1. When I'm in labor and begin to dialate is it just my cervix that is opening? Are there any changes in the vaginal area?

2. I live in Jeffersonville, IN (near Louisville, KY). When will I get my son's birth certificate and social security card? How do both processes work?

3. My fiance and I have different views on what a kid should and shouldn't have. For e.g. I never wanna give my son any carbonated beverages for a while and even then he'll be very limited; like once a month lol. My fiance thinks that I'll be taking away his fun but I just want him to be healthy. This goes for candy and snacks too. What do you think?

Well he smokes Mariquana like once a day. Will that affect me getting pregnant? Because we have been trying and I got pregnant once by him and got a miscarrage. Did that affect my pregnancy? Also we have not been using any condoms or protection for a year now and like make love everyday, does this affect me from not getting pregnant?
Amswering my questions will help me try to get pregnant.

i am currently 16 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby and starting sunday night i began feeling really bad having mild cramping but a lot of pressure very low. then monday night i had a terrible cramp on my right side just below my ribs. today the cramp is still there just kinda faint but still with a little bit of discomfort. i know that cramping can be normal but is this something i should contact my ob about? or can it wait til my next appt? also no blood or anything like that. thanks for any help.

I'm expecting my first baby in two days and it really just hit me how big that is. Problem is, due to medical allergies, i have to go natural. Im so frightened because it will be something i have never even come close to experienceing before. Has anyone else felt this way? Gone natural--how was it in the end? Anything encouraging is helpful.

I babysit for a 10 month old boy. He has always napped from 9am-11am and from 1pm to 3pm. With his parents, he has to be rocked to sleep. With me, I can just lay him down and he will sleep on his own. But, over the past week or so he has become REALLy difficult to get to sleep. Not only for me but his parents too.
At home he will scream and cry until he loses everything in his tummy. At my house, he will cry for about 10-15 minutes and most of the time will fall asleep. And when he does it only lasts about 45 min to an hour.
Could it be that he just doesnt need 2 naps any longer. Maybe just one in the middle of the day? Any suggestions?

I've asked the 'do you think I could be' questions here and usually get the same answers to take a test or see a doctor. I've taken tests, but they're not always reliable and I plan to see a doctor towards the end of the week. I would just love to hear from those who have experienced the same symptoms and turned out to be pregnant. My symptoms have lasted approximately 4-6 weeks.

* A couple of weeks ago I was bloated REALLY bad all day long, even after a BM
* Now it's not a bloat, but my lower abdomen is really firm
* I've felt nauseous for a couple of weeks, mostly resulting in dry heaves, but once I actually vomited.
*More frequent headaches than usual
*Lightheaded feeling every day for the past couple of weeks...sort of foggy and almost like everything I see is on a delay
*Cravings for chicken noodle soup or Frosted mini wheats
*Stomach pains occassionally while laying down

So, any opinions? If not pregnancy, what do you think it might be?

My daughter has just turned 14 this past September. Last night she was talking about her 14 or 15 year old girlfriend who's mother allowed the 15 year olds boyfriend to sleep over and even took a picture of the two "makeing out" (iguess without them knowing) and sent it to the 15 yr olds phone. I of course made a comment about that situation not being right. A teen should not be allowed to have her boyfriend/girlfriend sleep over. My 14 yr old daughter proceeds to tell me that these days are different than when I was a teenager and there is nothing wrong with it and that teens should be allowed to have boys or girls sleep over. She say that they wouldn't "do anything" . Please tell me your opinion on this matter. My daughter just thinks I am being old fashioned, I am only 34 it wasn't that long ago that I was a teen!

My daughter's doctor is a bit clueless -- we are searching for another at the moment -- and I'm wondering if the stuff she asks is standard (the questions are not the problem; just curious) or not.

She also repeatedly asks me if I have any questions at each well-baby appointment, and I have zero; I'm wondering what questions people do bring to their baby's doctors -- assuming, of course, no problems going on with the baby.

Give Benadryl?

But I went to my local pharmacy and the pharmacist there told me that benadryl are not for 2 years and under babies!!?? So what are we suppose to do?

Also how will we know if the baby is allergic to nuts and dairy? Doesnt it kill you if you are allergic and eat milk? I think its kind of silly to just give milk or nuts and watch for an allergic reaction, those allergic reactions can be deadly no?

my 6month old has been on solids for a month or so now, i havnt given her any meat yet and I'm still breastfeeding her on demand, recently she has started straining alot as if she really needs a poo, she fills her nappy at least once a day but is there anything i can give her to help the food pass more easily??

Ok,here's what I give my baby:
Oatmeal/rice cereal
Apples,prunes,bananas,pears,peaches..
Carrots,squash,peas,green beans,spinach,potatoes..
She is 8 mos old and has solids 3 times a day.
I want to know when I can start
1.egg yolk
2.Legumes and beans
3.Yogurt
and what else I can give that is a little fattening.
(She is still breastfeeding & having some formula too)

Okay we are going to have a baby... Babys last name with be Sharkey... What do you think are some good names to go with Sharkey? For now I think calling the baby Baby Sharkey is cute. Not sure it will work after the birth. We call daddy Sharkey.
