Pregnancy & Parenting - 27 October 2007

I woke up this morning with a lower fever (in the 99's) and swollen lympnoids under my jaw line. Ive had issues with my tonsils for years--so i know this is the cause. I called my doctor and left my number with his answering service, and a few mins later a nurse called me bak and said not to go to the ER because there were more germs there than the ones i had---and to gargle warm salt water, and take tylenol, benadryl, or suddafed. I took the tylenol at 7:00, at that time my temp was 99.7, its now almost 12:00, and my temp is down to 98.6, should i take more tylenol to make sure it doesnt go up during the night? Or should i just wait and see what it is in the morning?

My granddaughter is 5 months old and is breastfed. Her poo has never been solid--always watery and diarrhea like. Is this normal? Otherwise, she seems just fine.

Okay, so I am 7 months pregnant and am a hostess at a restaurant. I recently started having complications. My job requires me to escort people to their seats when they arrive. It also requires that when no customers are arriving, I must stand at all times. 8 hours straight is a long time to stand without a break, and I find that I'm in severe pain after shifts.

My dr would have no problem writing me a note reqestig that i'm allwed to sit down in-between seating customers (on a stool behind the hostess stand). My only question is this--is the restaurant required to accommodate me? Or can they argue that because standing up the entire shift is part of the job reqirement, that I either have to stand or quit?

My job is not pleased that I am pregnant and I feel that they would jump at the opportunity to fire me so they can hire someone else that is not pregnant.At this point it would be very hard for me to get a new job, and I most likely only have a month left working anyway.

We have a routine that he gets his formula while I rock him to sleep, but when I put him in bed, he wakes up and starts to scream and won't go back to sleep. I'm loosing my cool with him and I don't like that. I tried taking his afternoon nap away but then he'll fall asleep around 7 to wake up about 1/2 hour later and stay up until 11pm and getting later every night. HELP!!

I know that you should def quit smoking when you're pregnant. I'm a smoker and I just found out today that I'm pregnant (only like 2-3 wks) and when I was talking to a friend she said that if you quit smoking cold turkey, that since it messes with your body, like put in some sort of shock from lack of nicotine, it'll mess with your baby too...is this true? or is it better to gradually quit?

I had a lump on my right breast and it had abscesses in it and it was superficial, it wasnt deep but my OB-GYN prescribed Cabergoline to suppress the breast milk, I had the surgery yesterday and now i am very worried about what if the milk doesnt come again? how does Cabergoline works? because the doc said you wount be able to breastfeed after taking that pill, and i do want to breastfeed. please help. the reason for suppressing the milk because if the milk keeps flowing the wound wont heal.

Its getting close to halloween, and I already hear kids lighting off fireworks without supervision of an adult.

What would you do if you see a bunch of teenagers lighting off fireworks on halloween?

Would you let your son who was between 14-16 use fireworks without you with his friends?

I've been a stay at home mom for about a year and a half now - for the first three years of my daughter's life our finances couldn't be settled on only one income. Anyway, since I've been home, I've had a hard time meeting other moms who are mentally stable. They seem to be a little nuts. Anyone else have this experience? I love my children and I love spending time with them - what's with all the "I refuse to clean or put on make up" attitudes and the gossipy/catty stuff? I have about 4 more days until my period is suppost to be here. I'm waiting to test on the first day of my missed period. I haven't had any signs of my period showing. I usually have a 29 day cycle. I spotted once 6 or 7 days after having unprotected sex around ovulation. Me and my fiancee aren't trying to get pregnant right now we ran out of condoms. We're both reall excited about me possibly being pregnant. We can afford a child cuz we both work, graduated high school, have a stable home, and are 23. This is my second time thinking I was pregnant by the same guy. The first time I ended up not being pregnant. Are you tired of the 2 week wait? What went through your mind the first time you thought you were pregnant? If I am pregnant what should I be prepaired for? We're hoping for a girl if I am pregnant.

Im just wondering what are some early pregnancy signs that each women has expierenced? Im due for my period tomorrow, and so far Ive not had the normal PMS signs I normally have. I normally get sore breasts, bloated feeling and really crampy feeling.

Five days ago I got dizzy for no reason around noon time. I couldnt stand up, I had to sit down. It lasted on and off for a few hours and then stopped. Ive been really moody about everything, and for the past couple of days now Ive had small cramping. It comes and goes. Nothing like how I would get before a period would come on. And Ive noticed Ive been having alot of white and yellow looking cervical mucus. I never have that before a period. Ive felt "wet" alittle before a period comes, but never have I had the amount of Cervical Mucus Ive had over the past week or so.

Anything will help! Just wanted to see what other signs women had as well! Thanks!

my 4 y/o will not go to bed at night. this is a new thing for him. it's been going on for maybe a month. i've tried taking things away, grounding, losing allowance, rewarding him for going to bed, and just about everything else i can think of. i don't know what else to do. i really need help. it's driving me crazy. and he's not getting enough sleep so he's cranky and mean. please help me, i appreciate any advice you have. i'm a "single" mom, my husband is working in india and we're in utah, with a 7 y/o 4 y/o and a 7 mo old. thanks for any advice.

I just got my Mirena IUD a month ago. I just had my doctors's check up 2 days ago. I wanted to get it out because I hadn't stopped bleeding, and we (my husband and I) bullied the doctor into agreeing to tie my tubes. He tried to take it out, but he couldn't find the strings, and his poking around looking for them was hurting terribly. So, he said if I could tolerate it for 1 more month before my surgery, he'd just take it out then while I was under anesthesia. Seemed like a good idea at the time to me!

Here's my concern: I'm sure the IUD is still in there somewhere, because he just checked and I haven't found it in my underwear or anything. However, my bleeding that refused to stop (filling 2 pads a day) just magically stopped like someone turned off a faucet. This is suspiciously close to when my period should have been. So, all my IUD users: did your strings get lost inside you, did you get pregnant, are you more at risk for pregnancy of your IUD travels further up into your uterus?

My son is 21mo now but wasn't a very cute baby. At the time I thought he was beautiful. My son is adorable now and even cuter because he talks. I love my son to death but my new nephew is very cute already. I will always love my son more but I'm already obsessed with my nephew too. Of course he is my first nehew too. I fell guilty for thinking my nephew is cuter now then my son was when he was first born. My nephew was born on Thursday.

I'm not sure if I might be pregnant as I'm not due for my period for another 4 days (and I'm going to wait until then to test) but over the last few days my boobs have been aching a bit especially when I take my bra off. I'm not sure if its because of being due for a period and not on birth control or if I am pregnant.
(BTW before anyone goes crazy, I was on birth control with an IUD which I had to have taken out due to medical problems and I'm waiting for my period to start so I can start the pill which is what the doctor told me to do. we have been using other methods like condoms in between but maybe that didn't work?)
I already have 2 kids but my boobs never started being sore this early, it was usually around 6-8wks and there is no way I'm that far along if I am pregnant.


Any suggestions? When did your boobs start getting sore or any other little things that made you think you might be preggers before your period was due?
Just curious??
