I just got my Mirena IUD a month ago. I just had my doctors's check up 2 days ago. I wanted to get it out because I hadn't stopped bleeding, and we (my husband and I) bullied the doctor into agreeing to tie my tubes. He tried to take it out, but he couldn't find the strings, and his poking around looking for them was hurting terribly. So, he said if I could tolerate it for 1 more month before my surgery, he'd just take it out then while I was under anesthesia. Seemed like a good idea at the time to me!

Here's my concern: I'm sure the IUD is still in there somewhere, because he just checked and I haven't found it in my underwear or anything. However, my bleeding that refused to stop (filling 2 pads a day) just magically stopped like someone turned off a faucet. This is suspiciously close to when my period should have been. So, all my IUD users: did your strings get lost inside you, did you get pregnant, are you more at risk for pregnancy of your IUD travels further up into your uterus?

If you got pregnant on your IUD, did you still bleed?

If I'm pregnant, I swear I'm going to kill that doctor!!

I don't want ANY kids. wanted my tubes tied, but the doctor talked me into the IUD. It took my husband coming with me to yell at him to get him to change his mind and tie my tubes, and now I'm stuck with this things an worried out of my mind.

Get a second opinion about it.

I am going to have to start bullying doctors too. I want a tubal ligation. I do not want an IUD. I've heard nothing but horror stories. Maybe I need to get my bf to yell at a doctor.

I doubt you are pregnant. Use a backup method to be sure though. I hope your surgery goes well. Congrats on getting the doctor to do what you want.

My IUD grew into my uterus. I had a hysterectomy and it was INSIDE of my uterus. I would NOT have been able to have children later if I had decided to.

I thought when the string wasn't found that it wasn't in the right place and that you were not covered for birthcontrol. But I'm not a doctor..???!?!?

If you are sure that you do not want to have more children, I'd use other methods of birth control to be on the safe side.
