I was having a discussion about children's books and the issue of swear words in them came up. I got thinking about children's books and people who use swear words around children. I'm especially curious to hear from those who regularly use "bad words."

Do you have a problem with children using this language?

Do you try to curb your language in front of children?

At what age do you think it would be OK for your children to use "bad language"?

What's the difference between you saying it and your children (or someone else's children)? It's not like it's drugs or alcohol that can harm those who lack discretion.

I am a black woman aged 35 years. My husband is a white man aged 55 years. We have a domestic worker, she is 27 years and she is black. Her husband is 30 years, he is white. They live on our property and they have a child together who is 7 years. The problem is he is very angery. He calls his father "white bas***d" and the father he calls him "black b***ard". I want to have baby but not with this, what must I do?

My daughter, age 6, tells me that when the kids in school play 'kiss chase' and someone is caught, they are giving eachother lovebites. It's an infant school. Other things I've seen lead me to believe kids are actually making out in school, and everyday. I don't know exactly what happens.
I grew up in London and visited wales(where I am now) fairly regularly.I always noticed how girls here seemed to be really into boys and adult stuff (like real kissing, love bites, rubbing yourself) really young. It didn't happen where I lived. It's definately part of the culture here,I've seen it alot.
How can I keep control over this with my daughter?

I have a friend she has kids of my child's age, in the weekends, about once every 2 weeks, she would drop her children off in my house. She said she and her husband need time without kids. It's probably my culture, but I never ask any favors from her, because we're sufficient about taking care of our own child. I have never ask her for babysitting money either, because she's a friend. I often have to cook for those children during dinner. Do you think it's fair for us?

Since my baby was born I'm looking at baby toys and thinking of what I should buy him. But I can't help noticing that so many toys seem like they are designed to be 'replacement parents'

You get toys that 'read stories' that light up to 'soothe the child to sleep' and I can't help feeling that that is the mum or dads work! Not some battery operated toy! My husband and I are not rich, but even if we were I'd like to think that the job of reading stories and teaching ABC or numbers are OUR job and our baby will be much happier to have our attention to him rather than buying expensive bits of plastic while we devote our attention elsewhere!

Maybe I'm being old fashioned here, but I can't help thinking that it's MY job to teach my son to read and count and soothe him to sleep.

What are your opinions on this?
thank you

I'm 33 weeks and already dialated at 1.5 cm. I'm having about 10 contractions a hour, but they aren't regular. Is it normal for you to dialate this early? Everyone I talk to says that it's not normal, but the doctor doesn't even seem to be conserned about it much.

Please help me, my 3 and a half month old son refuses his formula ALL THE TIME.
I have to force feed him constantly, he is drinking about 520 mls (18 oz) every 24 hour period only by persistence and force feeding, he has about 4- 5 wet nappies a day and sleeps a lot.
He NEVER cries in hunger and has gone 17 hours with only 100 mls ((3oz).
I've tried my health sister, doctor, pediatrician, paramedics and hospital, all they say is feed him constantly and im going insane because he screams and clenches his mouth.
I've tried different teats and different heat temperatures.
I know he is not getting enough because he should be drinking at least 100 mls (30z) to every kilo he weighs, so approx at least 600 a day just to stay hydrated. he should be on 800-1000 mls.
I dont know what else to do and im starting to get really depressed as im worried and cant find any answers.
Im begging anyone out there with tips or advice to please answer me . thanks heaps

Hello,
Our son has been in school since the age of 1yr 3mths. This year he started Kindergarten at a public school. I'm not sure if it's the change of atmosphere or how big his new school is compared to the last 2 he's been in, but his teacher informs us that he will not stop crying. We've tried talking to him about it and asking him questions about how his day went but he tells us all is well. In the morning he gets on the school bus happy as can be, but an hour into the school day he begins to fuss and refuses to do the work at times. When he's home all he ever wants to do is his activity books...so he obviously enjoys the work...just not the school. We don't know what else to try and I feel so bad that I can't help my baby... :( anyone else ever been through a similar situation?

Has anyone's child ever been diagnosed and then only had a bit of splotchy rash on their cheeks that looks more like hives. Everything I read says that it will be on their stomachs and faces. My son had a high temp for a few days, and then two days after the fever broke he got hives on his face. Now the hives are splotchy and come and go. The doctor says they are unrelated to the fact that he had his varicella vaccine right before the fever and she doesn't think that it is roseola because his throat is/was clear. Anyone have any experience with this? Strange splotchy cheeks after a high fever.
