My friend is changing her name, she wants a unique name so I suggested Cyminthia, but I think its not a good idea.

I don't think it really matters. Cyminthia is weird, yes, and some people don't like weird names. But if you're friend digs it and doesn't care about the weird looks she'll get from some of the more narrow-minded people, it should be cool. If she doesn't like being judged, though, Cynthia (or something like it) would probably be a good choice.

She should start with something close to her given name. Seriously. I legally changed my name, but kept enough of my (horrid) given name to appease my (confused) grandmothers.

There's something jarring about answering to a completely new name. I've always been glad I held onto a shred, even though I disliked my birth name.

Is her given name Cynthia? If so, Hyacinth share the same root, and Jacinta is the Spanish version.

No sorry I don't think so. It looks terribly difficult to spell, and no one will know how to pronounce it from reading it, and she'd probably get called Minty for short. I can suggest a good website for browsing baby names: www.babycentre.co.uk or www.babycenter.com depending on which side of the world you live

I love unique names, but this one kinda sounds like an STD. If I heard my gyno say "cyminthia" I would freak out.

it sounds like the latin classification name of a plant

No I am sorry I don't care about it.

You probably won't like my suggestions either, but if you want unusual names how about:

Hyacinth
Celebrian
Shiraz
Raffinee
Simone
Charmaine
Ursula
Calliope
Selket
Lilibet
Tanananrive

Whatever you choose, keep in mind your last name, any family traditions, what the name means and how it matches up with the baby's personality, and perhaps numerology

Cynthia?

Cyminthia just has a random extra bit in the middle.
