It caused front page headlines some years ago when he came out of the closet and declared himself a homosexual resulting in his dishonorable discharge.

When he died, the military refused to have him buried at Arlington National Cemetary, having to be buried elsewhere, and his tombstone read...........

"They gave me a purple heart for killing so many men.
And gave me a dishonorable discharge for loving one."

I will never forget it.

Does anyone know his exact name and where he is buried?

Hi, I'm from Syria and I'm a freshman in high school. I'm thinking of enlisting in JROTC my Sohpomore year so it'll help me in the ROTC. Well one for all, at the rate we're going, I don't think The Iraq War will end soon in the next year or two. I'm from Syria and I'm thinking of joining the army. But my friends in Biology are like "PFFT! Are you kidding me?! Your Arabic, they would NEVER receuit you". Why is MY reason for joining the army you ask? Well I feel it is right to repay my country for the oppurtunities and the privelges even in the modern society, and if I die, well, I die for the engravement of my country. This country has always had a growing mentality-to strive forward-we were a bunch of settelers and now were a SuperPower with the most brightest minds. I can speak Arabic and I also am going to enroll in JROTC for 2-3 years..How many ranks will that help me? Will it help me at all?

I am currently a high school sophmore and I am 15 years old. For about a year and a half now I have wanted to be a Maine. I am in mostly AP classes at my high school and my parents want me to go to a UC school and major in engenering. My dad is a proud American and he has always told me that a true man is always ready to stand up and die for his country when it is in need. My mom is also proud to be American but she thinks that the fighting should be left to others. I am worried that if I tell her she will break down and try to make me reconsider. I need advise. Whats the best way to break the news to my parents.?

Hi, I'm an arab (wow that was blunt), and I'm thinking of joining the army, I can speak fluent arab and I'm a U.S. citizen and I know a little bit more english than arabic. My friend said that they won't let me join because I'm arabic..and whats happening, But I feel I need to repay my country and preserve the domecracy they've embedded on me ever since I was born. So, just a question, will they let an Arab join? Another question: My friend was all like its against my religion (muslim) to go in a war, unless its a "holy war" issued by Mecca. I was like Ok.....and he's Jewish so I don't know why his telling me this. But his a good friend so don't make fun of him or say "prolly thats what a jew WOULD say".

I know that you can go into the ROTC program in college to be an officer, but if you just go through college, and then join the military, can you still be a commissioned officer? I'm not sure if I really want to join ROTC. Thanks.

at the same time? I am asking because my friend just joined the US Army Reserves. He was active duty a few years ago, 4 years active duty as an 11B(infantry), and honorably discharged as an E5. Now he is a full time student and is collecting money monthly from his GI Bill. I think, about $1000 or so per month, I am not sure about the exact amount, somewhere around that amount.

But someone told him that as a reservist, he can get Tuition Assistance(TA). But he is not too sure, if he can get both GI Bill and TA at the same time.

Any one knows? He doesn't start drilling yet till next week, so he hasn't contacted his unit about this matter.

Any information you offer is greatly appreciated. If you don't know, please don't answer and just pretend you never read this. Thank you!

What are the casualty figures for U.S. civilians - not soldiers or others in official capacities - during World War II? It's easy finding numbers for soldier deaths and wounded, but I'm stuck when it comes to civilian figures. I know there were a number of civilian deaths at Pearl Harbor. Probably others in Asia. Don't know about Germany/Italy. Any help?

I assume at present that on a tour of duty there would be more fatalities for soldiers (infantry and all other units) than for officers, however if anyone could tell me a webpage where I could find the info I would appreciate it. Thanks

I first knew Che Guevara from the film "Motorcycle Dairy", and i have learned that Che is an important figure of Communism in Latin America. However, I don't understand one thing about his controversial life. He is a successful military leader. Even though he was both physically and mentally strong because he was once a rugby player and travelled around the Latin America, it is too unusual for this middle-class young man to know how to organize the insurgents successfully without a military trainning, and i hope to know the detail about this part of his life. I don't care about your political perspective, but i hope that somebody can answer this question. Thank you.
