I know that you can go into the ROTC program in college to be an officer, but if you just go through college, and then join the military, can you still be a commissioned officer? I'm not sure if I really want to join ROTC. Thanks.

Yes, you can become an officer without ROTC. If you join post-bachelors non-ROTC, you can either (a) join as an officer making more money annual income, or (b) join as enlisted and the Army pays off college debt in 3 years. Many of my friends went enlisted to pay off the debt, and then went officer. Many others went enlisted to pay off their debt, and then reenlisted as enlisted or decided to get out. Still others just joined the officer corps. It all depends on what your goal is.
Speaking of goals, before joining the military, why don't you want to go ROTC? You can quit ROTC if you don't like it - you join the Army, you're stuck. email me if you're really interested in this.

Yes, you can go through OCS, Officer Candidate School.

If you are thinking about joining the military as an officer, talk to a recruiter now about your plans. Make sure your plans make sense.

You can join and go directly into OCS after basic. You can also join for awhile and put in a packet for a direct appointment. If you chose the OCS route and want to do it right after basic you need to make sure you get it in your contract. Some people don't make it through OCS though. If that happens you have to go to AIT and remain enlisted for the term of your contract. Hope this helps.

I would have to say that yes that the service would not turn you away. However in the ROTC it is a bit automatic that one joins up. If you dont do the ROT and C the Army will not turn you away.
