Hi, I'm from Syria and I'm a freshman in high school. I'm thinking of enlisting in JROTC my Sohpomore year so it'll help me in the ROTC. Well one for all, at the rate we're going, I don't think The Iraq War will end soon in the next year or two. I'm from Syria and I'm thinking of joining the army. But my friends in Biology are like "PFFT! Are you kidding me?! Your Arabic, they would NEVER receuit you". Why is MY reason for joining the army you ask? Well I feel it is right to repay my country for the oppurtunities and the privelges even in the modern society, and if I die, well, I die for the engravement of my country. This country has always had a growing mentality-to strive forward-we were a bunch of settelers and now were a SuperPower with the most brightest minds. I can speak Arabic and I also am going to enroll in JROTC for 2-3 years..How many ranks will that help me? Will it help me at all?

I know in the Air Force JROTC is good for 2 pay grades. You'll start at E-3. And yes, ANY religion or background can join. To let something like that effect someone's enlistment is totally against what we are fighting for. That is crazy thinking by your classmates!! Plus, if you can pass the Defense Language Exam, you could make a bonus added on every month.

First of all, thank you. You are one of few people on Yahoo Answers joining the military for the right reasons. I know that in the Air Force, JROTC time in highschool will get you in one rank higher than everybody else. And if you do JROTC and sign up for 6 years in the airforce, you could go in two ranks higher (Airman First Class) where as most people start out as as Airman Basic. Also, a good job for you to look into the airforce would be Airborne Linguist since you know a great deal of Arabic.

In u.s., with the style of youngsters who attain draft age each and every twelve months, we don't have room interior the militia to take all of them so any conscription may be selective in nature and all does no longer serve. yet once you brush aside that and what if the placement, then you definitely might desire that by using serving their u . s . a . for a pair of years, teenagers may be greater susceptible to learn demanding in a while having found out a artwork ethic it is regrettably lacking in maximum toddlers immediately. in case you're because of the undeniable fact that each and every drop out may be forced into the militia then i ought to confirm the place you may think of that should incentivise teenagers to stay in college. regrettably that isn't the case. teenagers do no longer think of roughly outcomes. subsequently they are teenagers. i do no longer believe the drop out cost might replace inspite of the potential for forced militia servitude anticipating them. immediately below 30% of youngsters are eligible to enlist because of the fact of preparation, ethical or scientific issues. needless to say teenagers do no longer care approximately outcomes. desire this facilitates. good luck!

There's over 6,000 Muslims on active duty. 1,500 of them are in the Army. There are 6 Imams in the Army Chaplain Corps. The former commander of the U.S. Central Command is a Lebanese-American.
Your friends in Biology simply don't know what they are talking about.

JROTC for 3 years is usually good for 2 paygrades....

I served with a Persian in the military and I am still in contact with him to this day.

Good luck on your decision and keep focused on your goals.

*EDIT*

My advice, dont listen to those Air Force guys, even they know the NAVY is better. (sorry I had to do it, cross service rivalry and all)
