I'm 19 and I have a 2 year old baby girl. Yes, I made a mistake but she's mine and I love her. Her father has no parental rights.
If I were to marry someone already in service would he have to adopt my daughter in order to be covered?

You did not make a mistake....you had a surprise!

Your husband does not have to adopt her to get Tricare for her. You do have to have primary custody and it sounds like you do. Make sure you have her birth certificate and ssn card when you go to DEERS after you are married. Your husband will have to put her in DEERS unless he gives you a power of attorney.

nope.....my 2 children from my previous marriage are covered on my husbands tricare and i dont even have full custody...i had to show that i either had full custody, had 50%+custody, or had some sort of partial custody but was financially responsible for their medical care more than 50%. Im sure since her father has no rights that shouldnt be an issue. Your husband would have to take her along with her birth certificate and ss card to the DEERS office after you got married and then to tricare to enroll.......if you were to later get divorced she would lose all military benefits though.

The requirement is that the baby girl lives in his household and is a dependant. Adoption is not required to be covered by Tricare (his civillian health insurance) for dependants.

Probably. Have him speak to his TRICARE (or whatever the other services use) or other insurance carrier's agent.

Good luck!

Keep in mind, you may need the father to sign off that he wants to waive his paternal rights in order to get your daughter adopted. I don't know if every state asks this, but I know mine does.

no. as long as you have primary custody and she lives with you at least 50% of the time, he can add her to his Page two the same time as he adds you. HOWEVER, should you ever divorce, she would lose all rights the same day you would if he didn't adopt her.
