Hi, I'm an arab (wow that was blunt), and I'm thinking of joining the army, I can speak fluent arab and I'm a U.S. citizen and I know a little bit more english than arabic. My friend said that they won't let me join because I'm arabic..and whats happening, But I feel I need to repay my country and preserve the domecracy they've embedded on me ever since I was born. So, just a question, will they let an Arab join? Another question: My friend was all like its against my religion (muslim) to go in a war, unless its a "holy war" issued by Mecca. I was like Ok.....and he's Jewish so I don't know why his telling me this. But his a good friend so don't make fun of him or say "prolly thats what a jew WOULD say".

If you are an American citizen there's nothing preventing you from joining. In fact, they may want you in specific ares because of your language capabilities.
Talk to a recruiter for more info.

Well to begin with this war(if your talking about Iraq) has been and still is a waste of money, time and most of all: life. Should you fight for a country that has declared war with a muslim country that showed no national security threat whatsoever? I'll leave that for you to answer.
Ask yourself another question, does democracy really get spread by a gun or a bayonnet?
I don't think your ready for any war, but your better of going to school, getting a degree and trying to contribute to the very country you have such fond ties for.
Last but not least your a muslim. Muslims don't wage wars against muslims, neither do Jews against Jews or Christians against Christians, but sadly, it has. If you want more background info read the Quran on your own.
And yes they would take you in a heartbeat.

There are many, many Muslim Americans in the U.S. military. We had them in my unit while we served in Iraq and they were invaluable--especially those who could speak Arabic. The Army really really wants people who can speak Arabic, ESPECIALLY fluently, and especially if they're native speakers. Believe me, they won't bar you from joining because you're an Arab or are a Muslim. I think it's also fair to mention that linguists are entitled to extra pay (FLIP pay) every month BECAUSE of their language skills.
As for your second question... your friend is full of sh**. If it was supposedly against your religion to go to war, why are there so many Muslims--Arab or otherwise--serving honorably in the U.S. military right now? And since when does Mecca issue "orders" to Muslims? Mecca is the holiest site in Islam, not a military command center from which military commands are issued to followers around the world. Masjids in Mecca issue a call to prayer, not a call to arms. I don't think your friend's comments have anything to do with him being Jewish--I think it's because he simply doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Besides, who knows more about your faith; you, or him?

Of course you can join. When the Marines landed at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan the Corporal who raised the U.S. flag above the base was an Afghan-American and a Muslim. The former commander of the entire U.S. Central Command is a Lebanese-American. There are over 3,000 Muslims on active duty. 1,500 of them are in the Army. The Army also has 6 Imams who are in the Chaplain Corps.
When the attack on America happened, an Air Force Captain rushed into the burning Pentagon building and led hundreds to safety, though he was badly burned himself in the process. He's a Muslim.
In short, your friend is wrong. Since he is Jewish you can tell him that a retired Lieutenant Commander of the Navy said he is "Mashuga" (crazy).
I wish you good luck and good fortune.

I'll answer this in good faith.
1. The Army wants you NOW! Your skills would be put to use about 1.2 seconds after you graduate AIT.
2. There are no restrictions on race gender or Creed. (Orientation is another matter)
3. As a Muslim you should know the differences between the different types of Jihad and whom can issue such declarations.

There is definitely a place for you, your language skills would prove immensly helpfull. You may not get posted to a front-line unit, but rather to a communications nexus, but whatever your placement, you will be serving your new country. Thank you, and welcome to America.
