Odd scenario but curious as to what would happen. You are an Ensign aboard a U.S. Aircraft carrier located 200 miles off the coast of a major African city. You have just received word that both of your parents have been tragically killed in a car accident. The ship will not be docked in port for another month. Would the Captain allow you to be transported off the ship on a Seahawk or other form of air transportation towards the African city to return back home? Is this a scenario that would happen?

Approximately a year ago, he was in the US. He called in to a radio show because he wanted to tell Americans that George W. Bush is the best man we have in our government today. He said Bush is the only one who understands the threat we face, just as his grandfather was the only one, for years, who understood what a threat Hitler was. It took the bombing of London to wake his countrymen, he said. He said the American press is "atrocious" in the way it reports events in Iraq.
What do you think of this statement?

I have gone half way through getting a bachelor degree from a University. I was bored and took some time off then goofed around at the Marine recruiting station... well actually them kids were goofing around with me first, I was just playing along and see how far they will go.
I ended up signed up for Reserved and the ball kept rolling, a week later I signed up for Active Service. My score on the AFVAB was 83% and I was able to get the job that I thought would be interesting: Aircraft Maintainance.
But the real problem isn't the contract, nor the job, but its more dealing with the younger kids who are coming in as enlistees. Now I dont come off arrogant nor anything but very humble. My dad was an officer in the Navy so I grew up quite discipline. So I probably would find myself better along with the people at my level...
The question I have is that, eventhough I signed the contract and my bootcamp is in a month. What will happen if I dont show up for bootcamp?

I am in the Army and have been experiencing seizures. I don't think I have a disorder but next time one happens they will try to put me on heavy seizure meds which I do not want to take. If I refuse will they discharge me? Don't get me wrong, I will seek treatment when put out but I do not agree with the Army's means of controlling them. And no, I don't drive. I guess I just can't make that long term commitment to risky meds when this might be strictly environmental. Anyone know an answer?

A lot of so called 'news' reporting from both of the countries has a large amount of 'spin' applied to it and so causes considerable pressure to be applied to the government. Would it allow a quicker resolution to have tighter controls of reporting from the warzones and allow the Generals to get on with whatever they consider to be the most expedient way to resolve the conflicts?
I am aware of the moral dilemma this poses but increased casualties in the short term may save lives by shortening any conflice by years.

I was thinking of joining the navy (or possibly another branch) after High School (I'm a senior). Basically, I'd just like advice from sailors (or other personnel, or anyone who can give me good advice) and their opinion.

I'm not sure what I want to do with my life, I'm interested in linguistics (I know about the DLAB etc...) anyhow I thought perhaps the navy would give me a chance to do something worthwhile, get away from home, experience life a bit, and travel.
What are the
pro's and con's of the navy, especially compared to college?
Why did you join?
and are you happy with your decision? why or why not?
Would you advise a different branch? if yes, why?
thanks

Di you choose college over the military, are you happy?

Just looking for advice, comments, opinions... any info would be helpful.

We have been safe since 9/11 because we have a shitty government? We are envied and attacked upon idiots. Stop thinking we have no purpose in this war. Why don't you tell me what will happen when we pull out all troops. I have a brother there so dont' tell me I don't know about military actions. I shouldn't have to explain myself and why we are the best country in the world. Whatever happened to all the American flags on cars after 9/11. I think what happened in that Americans are wusses and haven't experienced hard times in so long they don't know what's going on right now. The world isn't peaches and cream folks. You defend what is ours and we have the best military in the world. The war may have gone on for too long and it's sad. Although, we can't pull out. Therefore, you must support our actions and our troops. Don't you know how it makes them feel when they are putting their butt on the line and you mock the whole idea of being there. USA is the best country and always will be.
