I believe you have to have normal color perception to be in the seals. It is probably the same for the Special Forces. To be in special forces or the seals you have to learn very quickly.

If your brother doesn't learn easily or have very high grades in school he might not qualify for either or be able to pass them if he did.

ha.. my brother is color blind too!!! He's in the Army and he's a mechanic.. oddly enough. There are a lot of jobs he cant get into... but going special forces and navy seals is really freaking hard to get into. He needs to go talk to every branch possible... in different locations too.. like different cities.. and ask the same questions. There are still quite a few jobs available and i'm sure he could get into any Infantry.. which kind of sounds like what he wants to do anyway. If you send him to.. http://www.about.com he should be able to find out ANYTHING he needs about the military. That's how i found out about what i wanted to know about the Military.. it says every branch MOS you can think of... even on the officer side, and it should tell you if you can have it and be color blind.. it will also tell you what females cant be in. It's pretty informative.

As for what the guy before me just said... that's not always the case... there are different levels of color blindness.. which they'll be able to tell by a color blind test.. which he will recieve.. everybody does.. even females. The way my brother sees color-blind.. he cant tell dark colors apart. If you put dark blue next to dark green, he cant tell them apart.. Also he said when he's driving down the road.. the trees all blend together. he cant really tell trees apart because of the coloring, so it also depends on his degree of color blindness

A Marine must have colored vision to be Recon, or be an ammo tech or eod. And some jobs where all you do is look at maps, like some intel and fo jobs. He would have to see the recruiter for more info.

if he is color blind there are no options for him. you must read maps that are color coded as well as be able to tell the diffrence in the color of smoke that is used for signals just to name a few things that would keep him from being able to do the job.

there are so many day to day things that color comes into play with it would make doing the job imposible. If i remember right they test for color blindness when you sign up. its been a while though

the military is not a EOE they dont have to make eceptions for handicaps like a civilian employer does.

I however respect his willingness to serve anyway.

I'm yellow/orange color blind and didn't even know it until I went to do my physical prior to going into the Marine Corp. It doesn't disqualify you, just limits you as to which jobs you can do, I.E. electrician. It also depends on the extent of your color blindness. Red/green color blindness can often lead to alot more limitations though.

Color blindness is not disqualifying for enlistment. But, it will restrict him in being assigned to certain occupational fields such as electronics and the like.

i think that special ops would be ruled out ONLY due to his colour blindness............

Go to each branch and ask for the eye requirements for the jobs that he wants to do.
