I came to the U.S as a kid illegally. If i join the army could i become a resident of the U.S i'm turning 18 in 5 months. I just don't want to have to leave. Is there any hope i'm willing to put my life on the line.

Kudos to you young man. I believe the US should make a program available for young people such as yourself, to offer permamnent residency to anyone who serves honorably in our armed forces.

This certainly would resolve part of the illegal immigrant problem, and the Pentagons problem of keeping up enlistments, too !

This sounds like a win, win situation for all. What say you ?

Illegal aliens are barred from entry into the armed forces of the United States. Only citizens and resident aliens can join. Only citizens can become officers.

You have to be legal to join but you don't have to be a citizen. About 4% of our Army is non-citizen. But joining doesn't give you automatic citizenship. You still have to go through the motions like everyone else.

You should go to:

www.goarmy.com

and click the link 'Chat with a recruiter' during normal business hours and ask them that question online. Without knowing the specifics of your situation now it's very hard to answer your question.

There are a small number of foreign nationals serving in the U.S. military so it is possible in some cases.

Good luck.

i know it sounds retarded.. but yes... It's a whole lot of paper work.. but go into a recruiter and talk to them.. they'll hook you up.. they can get you a visa or passport.. whichever you need, and then you can come.. join the army, do your time.. and then you're a legal citizen.. kind of amazing how it works. I dont really understand all the paperwork and stuff involved... but just ask a recruiter.. they'll be able to tell you
