People often think that you just get a 4 year degree and become an officer. That is not true. It is the same going from enlisted to officer. Officer Candidate School can be seen like Bud's training for the Navy Seals, or as a "Marine style" Boot Camp for officers. O.C.S. is designed to weed out the candidates who aren't able to think quickly or perform mentally or physically in real world or training scenarios. The early weeks are used to weed out those that don't pack the gear.

for the army... a few different ways, it doesnt matter what your rank is... get some college under your belt.. 90 hours, drop your OCS packet.. do that for 14 weeks. Or you can do the Green to Gold Program. They have 4 year, 3 year, and 2 year green to gold. Fill out a packet for that. You have to go to a board for both of them. Or you can do your time enlisted... get out and use your Mont. GI Bill, get a bachelors, make sure you're getting out as at least an e-4, then come back in. You can do ROTC while you're in college, or you can just come back in with a bachelors as an e-4. You'll go to yet another board, and they'll do what they see fits if you make it. That's what my step-dad is doing right now, and he has to go through a 4 week program and that's it.

There's also the Warrant Officer Program.. 2 different ways. You can be any rank and drop a Warrant Officer Pilot Packet. College doesnt matter either that way. But you do have to take the FASTS test. Which can be pretty hard if you know absoultely nothing about aircraft. Then they have Walking Warrant Officers. You need to be e-5 promotable and have 90 college credit hours to drop this packet. But Warrant Officer Candidate School is only 9 weeks.

Enlisted Personnel can apply to attend the service's military academy depending on their civilian school grades (all A or A plus) however should you fail a year you will find yourself back in enlisted service, they might or might not advance you an enlisted grade for your efforts.

Officer Candidate School is the only option, but you need to be a minimum NCO (E5 or E6) grade to apply. You can be commissioned and complete your officer branch basic course in less than a year depending on your MOS.

Good Luck

To become an officer, you pretty much have to go to college. There are programs in the military that make it easier. Like OCS, WOC schools. You can also do the ROTC thing. There are also some programs that make it really easy, like the Army PA program. That is if you think Med school is easy.

In the USMC you have 2 possible ways. First being college grad, second being the WO route, which means being selected and its difficult. You need to have top scores all the way around , when you become CWO3 you can put in for the LDO option and go that route as well.

depending on what branch, it is very possible for you to become a officer

Jake OK you have a very vivid imagination please stop playing age of empires. You need to look at the facts, he did not state which branch of service and their is 4 branches, which 2 are ground forces and other two are sea force and aviation force. You need to understand just because you play age of empires it is just a video game and most of it is fictional.

You can get a field commission when all the other officers are killed in combat and you're the highest ranking survivor remaining and take charge of all the other survivors as if you are the acting officer in charge!
