I am trying to get a compassionate reassignment due to shoddy medical care (and lack there of). It doesn't look that that is really an option, though. However, I have since been told about a packet (Early Release of Dependent) that can be filled out at S-1 (personnel office) in order to get dependents home. Has anyone heard of this or gone through this process? I am trying to find out more about it. Any information you could offer would be grealty appreciated.

***This is from an E-Mail that was forwarded to me.**

...I was in the Airport in Atlanta. I watched, as 30 to 40 Marines calmly walked by. The people around, stopped and applauded. And the Soldiers quietly acknowledged the gesture.
...I little girl, steps out from her Mother. And approaches a young Marine. He stops and kneels to hear her question.
"Will you give this to my Daddy?" she politely asked.
The Soldier pauses long enough, to have the young 7 Year-old, reach up and give him the biggest hug possible.
... The crowd, around me, was left in stunned silence. The mother of Little Courtney, approached the Marine as he rose to his feet. She then tells the Marine that her husband had been in Iraq for 11 Months. And that her Daughter was missing him very badly.
...As the Soldier stepped away, he grabbed his Radio, and began talking to someone on the other end. But then paused, and walked back to where Courtney and her mother stood.

A number of my friends have been researching the Hague and Geneva Conventions. However, it is also true that much of the "laws of war" is not yet codified.

Indeed, during WWII, much less of the "laws of war" was codified than is today.

Yet, (in regard to the battlefield or in occupied territory) researchers and jurists can often point to the "customary laws of warfare" for guidance in sorting out how best to undertake various actions, or how to interpret various actions.

So, what exactly is the best definition for the "customary laws of warfare" ?

It was reported in the news that Prince Harry will not be deployed to Iraq - despite his wishes - as the Army feels his presence poses a threat to the safety of his regiment. Were the Army right to do this? Or are there other reasons that we are not aware of?

Hello all quick question here about the Navy and bootcamp period. Is it possible to remove yourself from the Navy while in the bootcamp period? Girlfriend joined 3 1/2 weeks ago and basically things aren't going too well. The job she was 'promised' is no longer hers, as is the large bonus, and must now wait until some new job comes along.
So anyway she mailed her mom and myself back asking if there was anything that could possibly be done. She has a daugher if that can factor in any new possibilities.

Any help on if removing yourself while in Navy bootcamp is possible would be very much appreciated.

I want to join Marine ROTC (or AFROTC, can't decide yet), so they will pay for my tuition for Embry-Riddle. The thing is, I am scared of the commitment. If I graduate Embry-Riddle and they will not let me be a pilot, I will be committed to doing something i do not want to do, which is anything but fly planes, for four whole years. With that four years, I could have been building up my flight hours instead. What can/should I do? Would the marines do that to me? Pay for my tuition but not let me be a pilot so I'm stuck with no flight hours so even after the four years I won't be able to get a commercial airline pilot job?

Please respond with analytical answers and not emotional tirades. I don't care how much you hate bush or demorats. Please give me your own personal, educated, estimate for the length of time we will stay in Iraq if the current conditions hold. Essentially how long will a U.S. government, led by McCain or Guliani, continue the war in Iraq?

Granted whats on tv everyday this is a dumb as hell question (I know).
I feel as though im offending members of the armed forces by asking this... however im not one to hold my tounge on certain subjects. I would prefer answers from someone who has been there, someone who has been through a lot while they were there.
"why dont you join the service and go yourself" is not an answer in my book for I don't appreciate sarcasm. Besides, one wouldn't waste time asking this kind of question if he wasn't considering it.
