trust its not as bad as the tv shows. Picture this if you watched the news and it showed how many people died all over the states a put money on it that there will be ten times more deaths over here that in Iraq. Iraq is just a big block of sand. A place where you sometimes have to pray for a shower and wonder everyday why are we over here. When I went over there all we did was convoy and after a while we were wondering why it is that we do what we do. We would deliver things to different living areas. The Iraqi's would always ask us why are we there and we would never know how to respond. You see and learn alot the people enjoy the fighting between religions thats just what they do they have been doing it for years. I remember that they would try to kill there own people who where trying to make things better especially the one that would work with us. We use to have the things called black out ( which means someone died and we cant use to phones) They use to happen so often. It happend on almost every holiday so when we would try to reach our family it ended up being depressing because family holiday turned into us guarding something or sitting around hopeing and wishing that we could talk to someone sane. By the time we came back we were so thankful for the little things like showers toilets and fast food restaraunts it was a shame. The first thing that I did when I came back was take a shower and slept in a normal bed instead of a cot. Life was different but it wasnt as terrible as the news makes it. But from what I hear it is worst no than what it was. My husband it out there this time and he sleeps in the dirt they dont have phones or internet. He has to eat mre's instead of regular food. He is living very poorly and I feel so bad for him. Can you imagine a whole yr sleeping on the ground in the dirt I mean what happens if it rains. Tv sometimes extend the truth. Dont beleive everything that you hear on the tv.

Hot and sandy. There is snow in the mountains of Kurdistan (the Iraq/Iran border) in the winter. The Kurds are very pro-American seeing as how we saved the Kuwaitis and Kurds in the first Gulf War. The Iraqis are proud people. One of the best things I saw on over 370 missions was women who held very important jobs in the infrastructure. Also, if you see a fountain next to a toilet dont turn it on....its used to clean ones bottom after going to the loo. The writing style used is beautiful when its not grafittied on the city walls. The food is good too!

Actually, based on what's on TV everyday, that's a valid question. Have you ever noticed that the "news" media will run a bad story, and keep it going for a week until another bad story comes along? They refuse to show the good stories that happen in between because that wouldn't sell their agenda.
As for how it is in Iraq, it's safer than Texas. I've never been in the vicinity of gunshots here. I have been in Austin. The only problem is you burn out at about 9 months in country.

It is not that bad. I have been stationed here for several months. Sure the weather is hot and it's very dusty and muddy at times. It's not that dangerous here on base...we do have a lot of recreational time. I know a lot of fellow soldiers whine to their families on how hard we have it over here...but trust me, it's not that bad.

it's like a dirty, dusty mix of total boredom with the hint of danger in the air. no alcohol, no partying, a lot of bored soldiers falling in love with eachother at the drop of a hat. i have mixed feelings about being over there, bc you obviously aren't as blinded by the media goggles when your there and it's in your face everyday. i saw a lot of good (people thanking us and helping us) and a lot of bad, too (soldiers and civilians being wounded and killed). all i can say is god bless all our people over there bc they are sacrificing everything they have as a duty to our country and they deserve a helluva lot more than they get for what they do.

hell divided by 3. You couldn't pay me to join the military... Ever here of gulf war syndrome? The French fought side by side with the americans and they didn't get it. The americans got vaccinated with disease, the french didn't...now over 200,000 soldiers are dead or dying from a manmade disease.. mycoplasma has parts of the aids virus...aids is manmade....
