The independence of Kosovo depends only upon Russia, USA and Security Council. Whatever they decide, no one in Serbia would sign the independence of Kosovo (except the USA payees, whose number is growing...)
Russia in openly against Kosovo independence, though they could only gain with it on "ground level." USA is USA. The Security Council is divided.
War on the Balkans depend on USA and Germany; countries which have caused the wars on the Balkans.
Kosovo independence: 50%-50%
War on Balkans: 5% (Standard deviation :P)

Kosovo has already won its independence from Serbia; it has been de-facto independent since 1991. We paid for it will blood and sweat. The sad reality for serbs is this: independence is the result of ruthless actions taken in part by their leaders. And your questions about another war; what is Serbia going to fight with? - sling-shots and rocks?

Kosovo will have independence you can take that to the bank. The Kosovo plans will be attempted to be derailed say by a Russian veto, but it makes no difference because a whole bunch of countries will recognize Kosovo. Besides when other breakaway republics such as Croatia, and Slovenia among others declared their freedom Russia did not recognize and supported them but now some are in EU.
The US, Nato, and Europe is just trying to create a system of power checks and balances in the region so that this Balkan problem is fixed once and for all. I do not think we will see anymore Balkan wars.
Me myself I'm a supporter of FREE KOSOVA simply on the principal fact that the Kosovo residents want it and in any democratic regime the people rule. I'm agitated at the fact that Serbia feels that it belongs to them when in fact it was stolen land all along, their is a very small percentage of Serbs that reside their, and the Serbs are not trusted and despised by the Albanian Kosovars for the past treatments(lets not forget that less than 10 years ago the Serbs tried to evict all of almost 2 million Albanians into neighborig countries).
The Serbs claims and concerns are weak. First they claim it was traditionally Serbian heartland and was laways ruled by Serbs all the way until the battle of Kosovo a battle which they lost to the Turks and turned them into a subjugated people. They see the Albanians as allies of Turkey for embracing Islam and a lot of their leaders and culture has fabricated stories of Albanians being settled in Christian lands and due to unrest and poverty in native Albania this has contributed to upset and shift of the population demographics in the region. Here is me discrediting their claims in 3 points.
1, In reality the natives that roamed the entire Balkan peninsula were the Illyrian tribes and the Albanians are the direct descendants of this group of people making them the first official residents of Kosovo and the Slavs migrated into the area in the 6th century A.D.
2. Embracing Islam was a way of accepting special status in the Ottoman empire. It would be equivalent of a US immigrant getting naturalized as a US citizen it meant cheaper taxes, freedom to bare arms, easier land ownership rights and so on. The Albanians are not the only ones that took this path, every nationality in the Balkans and elsewhere for that matter had members that deviated. Among the Serbs you have the Bosnians, among the Macedonians you have the Torbesh, among the Bulgarians you have the Pomaks and so on. The Albanians still resisted the Ottomans and Scanderbeg is considered as the saviour of the Christian Europe because he halted the Turkish advance by winning battles againts them and keeping them at a stand still for 25 years as Europe mobilized and prepared to defend itselfs againts the Ottomans. Here are some noted rebellions againts Turkey by the Albanians:
1495- Cental Albania burst out in rebellion.
1509- Northern Albania rebels.
1537- The Himariots of southern Albanian rebel.
1701-1704 Rebellion throughout Albania.
1708- Another central Albanian rebellion.
1787-1796 - Uprising led by Kara Mahmut.
1811-Norhtern Albania uprising led by Mustaf Pash Bushatliu.
1822- Rebellion in the south by Zylyftar Poda.
1834- Attempt to liberate Berat from the Turks.
1835- Rebellion in the north by Hamza Kazazi.
1843-1845 Rebellion in Kosovo, Shkup, Tetov, and Diber.
1847- Uprising in Kurvelesh engulfs all of Southern Albania.
1854-Shkodra rebellion includes the Mirdites.
1863-1865-Struggles againts of Ottomans againts rebels in Shkodra, Kosovo, and Diber.
1867-1868 rebellion in Luma region and Gjakov.
1873- Turkish army sent to crush the northern highlanders of Albania.
1876-1877 Rebellion in Mirdite region once again.
This paints of different picture of fighting bedfellows instead of Turkish allies as stated by the Greeks and Serbs.
3. In 1931 the unbaised Romanian geographer Nicolae Pop put the number of Albanian speakers in Yugoslavia to 800,000 most in Kosovo. Seeing that a lot where expelled to Turkey some by force and others by sanctions this still explains the high number of Albanians in Kosovo today. Discrediting Serbian claims that before WWII they(Serbs) were majority in Kosovo and the Italians with their puppet Albanian government expelled Serbs from Kosovo. This is a blantant lie.
I have much more material to descrit the Serbia claims and if I keep writing I'll make them look aliens totally as the Afrikaans in South Africa. I can can write until i'm blue in the face but the solid fact remains that Kosovo needs to be ruled by its citizens and their democratically elected leaders and not by corrupt stooges in Belgrade or brutal police forces sent to terrorize the Albanians and show favoritism to the Serb minority their. Also If they choose war than we shall make sure they get what they want. It will not the first time we have fought for our freedom.
