I suppose we're in Iraq in hopes of making the middle eastern countries into a peaceful region ..... sort of like why we went to europe and to the pacific regions to get Japan to behave.....seems to me that Europe is relatively peaceful today and certainly Japan is no longer bullying other countries around..... peace for future generations should be the goal

It started thousands of years ago, although the US have only actively been involved since Iraq invaded Kuwait. The US in their wisdom believe that they are trying to establish stability in the wake of the exit of Mr. Hussein.
War in that region will never end because there are two definite sects that clearly have never liked each other. The US will eventually withdraw and another dictator will rise and overthrow any semblance of democracy the US may have established.
It is not WWIII, and the American people will not allow it to become another Vietnam. Iran is undoubtedly one supplier of the weapons, but Iraq has many arab supporters in other countries in the world, and weapons can be acquired from anyone you pay the right amount of cash to.
While the US is engaged in a sabre rattling contest with Iran, they cannot afford to leave Iraq and start the same thing with Iran.

Just living human kind was caught by our creator with pants down in Iraq.
Expose the blunders and slip-ups with human errors created back in the past centuries being expose with time.

Expose iarq as a living examples that living human kind were self annihilating their own children, own generation and living human kind to be the last of the Mohican on planet earth.

The Iraq war was the brain child of the Washington think tank called Project for a New American Century.
Basically, the goal of the Iraq war is to:
1) Steal Middle East oil,
3) Force regime change (meaning, force Middle Easterners to accept brutal Washington Approved dictators as their leaders.
3) And To protect that sh!tty little leeching criminal welfare state called Israel.

Well, at first it was about getting rid of terrorists but then they realized that they probably would need to bomb the middle east which they can't do because some of them are still providing oil. Then it was because they had weapons of mass destruction, then they couldn't find the weapons. So they decided it was to get rid of the bad bad monkey Saddam so they got rid of him and now they don't have any excuses for why soldiers and civilians are dying there.
They want oil. They want money. They don't give a **** about Iraq, it's citizens or US citizens, they just want fat back pockets and that is where it ends.

In truth there is not simple answer for you.
The roots of this war go back to WW1 and the fall and break up of the Ottoman Empire. In WW2 the Nazis help set up the Saddam`s Baath Party.

War is ALWAYS an economic event. Saddam had a nationalized oil industry whose benefits went to the Iraqi citizens. Additionally, he was attempting to undermine U.S. dollar hegemony by trading oil in Euros. Those things are a big no-no to the pursuits of an imperialist power.
Here's an excerpt from a speech given by Major General Smedley Butler on the issue in 1933.
------------------------------------------
'War Is a Racket'
War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses. . . .
There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism.
It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service.
I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents

It started when Dubya wanted revenge against Saddam for embarrasing his daddy. The terrorists were in Afghanistan so we had every right to be there and set things straight. Saddam thumbed his nose one too many times and ticked Bush off. It's looking like a Vietnam situation.

Because the Middle East has a lot of Oil and Bush, Cheney and the Neocon gang want some of it if not all.
Once they get their permanent bases set up in Iraq, they will be able to target other countries and try to take their resources too.
