I am trying to get a compassionate reassignment due to shoddy medical care (and lack there of). It doesn't look that that is really an option, though. However, I have since been told about a packet (Early Release of Dependent) that can be filled out at S-1 (personnel office) in order to get dependents home. Has anyone heard of this or gone through this process? I am trying to find out more about it. Any information you could offer would be grealty appreciated.

It's call "Early RETURN of Dependents". It's used to send family members back to CONUS for a variety of reasons, and is a DA Fm 4187 and justification. It does NOT curtail the assignment of the soldier. Since your family is Command Sponsored, you have a three year tour in Europe or a two year tour in Korea. You will still be required to complete the assignment.

Check with your Squad Leader, PSG and the S1.

It is called Early RETURN of Dependnats, and basically, it is a PCS move. you would lose OHA and gain BAH for their location. You do NOT qualify for Family Seperation unless you would have already gotten it due to operational commitments( in other words, if your family had stayed with you OCONUS and you were deployed, you would get FSH for the same time frame ). You lose COLA for everybody but yourself.

You may NOT get SOFA sponsorship back, and if you chose tomove them back OCONUS it would entirtely be out of pocket. You also don't get to shorten your tour, either. If you already have follow on orders they wiull only move your family to that duty station. If not, they will move them wherever, but you could end up paying out of pocket when it comes time for you to PCS, as they might not pay to move your family all the way tothe new duty station from where they are living.

You say shoddy medical care.. is this your perception, or are there EFMP family members that cannot get adquate care? if this is the case, then they should never have passed the Overseas screening.

I personally had better care OCONUS(and I am an EFMP ) then I have had statesisde, civilian or military, .

You can go to the base IG(inspector general) and ask him/her for the proper steps to take,if you feel that the IG office is giving you crap, then contact you congressional representative, but, you need to be sure that your reasons for assignment change is valid, and you are in fact incurring a family hardship as result of the medical condition of your dependent. They may suggest you finish your assignment without your spouse or dependent, after all,you are the military member, not your dependent.I am not saying this to be mean spirited,I am saying what the military would say.I pray that your medical crisis end some with the results that you hope for.peace, and may the Creator bless you and your dependent.
