I am currently serving in Baghdad.... I had no complaints about the money we make here... it is tax-free, I get hazardous duty pay, I still get my special allowances. My monthly take home comes out to around $3,500 a month, which is not bad....
I just had a discussion with an Austrailian co-worker and they are getting a ridiculous amount more! He is bringing home about $12,000 a month!
Why are the Aussies getting paid so much more? One of the biggest differences is that while we get $225 a month for our hazardous duty, etc, Aussies are making $150 A DAY!! They are evidently talking about raising it to $200 a day!
I wish I'd never found out. I think what I'm getting is pretty fair and I am not one to complain- I just don't understand why there is such a giant difference (and no, he doesn't do anything extraordinarily special; it is pretty standard for all Aussies serving in Iraq). Any ideas?
See what your troops are getting? Peanuts, compared to other countries' militaries.
