Which side?
Well, thats kind of irrelevant. Anyway, imagine hell only incredibly cold and you will just barely approach the kind of suffering the soldiers experienced. The Germans were starving, exhausted, and were dying from the cold. Almost the same with the Russians, but the Russians had food. But they also were ill equipped.

Depends if you mean German or Russian... Very different conditions.
