If there was a major quake or terror attack, would they expect government help in the form of National guard or any other military help? Why should they get it?

Don't tell me they are just for it when they are in trouble or the US needs it.
They also exist to fight any and all wars, even the wars San Fran does not like.

Dave R...the troops are there for the love of country. These men and women by a vast majority want to finish the job. If you take them out , they have lost comrads and their own resolve for nothing. How can you support them if you think they themselves are wrong? If someone is a thief by trade but thinks it ok .....you support them????? anyhow

If a disaster occurred the people in San Francisco would demand that the California National Guard respond to save them - and put up 'no soldiers' signs in their restaurants.

I made the mistake of asking for a military discount in a San Francisco hotel once - and discovered that you do not want to admit to being military in that city.

The premise of your question is flawed.

First of all San Francisco isn't a single entity which thinks as one. It's a major city with a lot of different people in it. You're going to find some hard core Bush true believers there along with those dirty hippies.

Second, while I'm sure there are a few crackpots who "hate the military" and feel it shouldn't exist, most people are much more reasonable than that. Typically people feel that force should be used as a last resort, so their problem is with a government that goes to the military option too easily.

Finally, I sense a hint of "Being against the war is the same as being against the troops" in your question. If it's not there, then I apologize and please ignore this paragraph. Being against the war is *NOT* the same thing as being against the troops or being against the military. Why do people on the far right have such a hard time understanding that? Frankly, I think it's more supportive of the troops to want to get them out of harm's way ASAP rather than leaving them stuck in a quagmire indefinitely.

They should get it because they are on American Soil. They do still have the coast guard, but they perform a function. Can you imagine being stationed in San Fransisco. It's not cheap. I suspect the BRAC felt they could move the operations else where and save money, be more affordable for its personnel , plus get a tidy sum for the valuable real estate.
