Senate to leap back into Iraq debate By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer
28 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - After weeks of watching their counterparts in the House make headway on anti-war legislation, Senate Democrats say it is their turn to put their members on record on whether President Bush should pull U.S. combat troops out of Iraq.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) scheduled a test vote Wednesday on the war, one that may succeed in allowing debate to begin. Debate has been stalled since January because of a disagreement between the two parties on how many and what types of amendments should be allowed.

The vote would be the third time this year that Democrats have tried to start the Senate's first formal debate on the war since the party took control of the chamber in January.

"Agreeing to a debate is not enough," said Reid, D-Nev. "Republicans must heed the voices of their constituents and the overwhelming majority of Americans and vote to change the president's flawed Iraq policy."

Reid is pushing a resolution that would set a target date of March 31, 2008, for the withdrawal of combat troops. The measure says U.S. forces could stay beyond that date only to protect U.S. personnel, train and equip Iraqi forces and carry out counterterrorism operations.

The Senate measure is weaker than legislation being considered by House Democrats that would demand troops leave before September 2008. However, several Senate Democrats have been reluctant to impose a strict deadline on the president.

I will be 18 years old soon. It is bad enough to try and have to convince my parents it is okay for a woman to go to the Marines, but now I have to convince him. I have an appointment with a recruiter soon and I told him. He said he thought I was just full of admiration for the Corps and did not realize I intended to enlist. He thinks because he is 24 he knows more than I do! How do I explain to him this is okay? We really need to have a united front because my dad doesn't know anything about my full intention to enlist in the Marine Corps and that I have been dating my fiance since I was 15. He will be so angry that I have to make sure my fiance is "on the same page" with me.

Is TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) disqualifying under all circumstances in the U.S. military? I have *minor* TMJ recently diagnosed by my doctor, and I've never had jaw pain... ever. Would I need a waiver? Would I have trouble getting one? Thanks.

What if, don't you love "what ifs", an American Government, a tyrant, were to rip up the Constitution and rule with arbitary powers (I said "what if"!) and excecute people for carrying guns etc, would Americans accept external aid from wealthy Arab States to overthrow the tyrant. If the intervention force were then to overstay their welcome and rewrite the US Constitution how would Americans react?

War is a flaw in mankind. But who is wrong, the one who started it or who hit back? Millions die in war. Millions more die in the slavery and corruption caused by the war starter. Without a war, the starter would murder by the billions.

"A million wars could not cause as much death as Slagar already has. Millions equivlance of millions of war to come if we do not fight."

OK, we screwed up IRAQ, fine. Now the goal is to do whats best for THEM. Their are three conceivable options.
1) Pull out, withdraw. Militants and radicals kill everyone. The US created government and anyone who ever worked with it or the Americans, is killed. Saudi Arabia, Iran and Syria fight for control by funding whoever create the biggest mess, this goes on for 20 years, or until we decide to intervene again, as there is a new "hotbed for terrorist activity"
2) Send in 100,000 troops, forget the Iraqi government, create a police state, call it an occupation. Every night everyone is at home, 7pm, or they are shot etc. This would restore order and stop the massacre, but for how long, and what ultimate goal?
or 3) Federated states. Give each people a chunk of land, and allow them to rule it as they see fit...with a very loose central gov, that will divide oil monies. (Billions) This creates the risk of one more powerful killing the other, also everyone will want Baghdad.

I just turned 18 3 days ago and I have recently moved and been living with one of my mom's friends until we find a new house. When I filled out my FAFSA, it asked me if I was 18-25 and if yes, the selective service would register me. I was wondering if I have already been registered by selecting yes to that question and won't have to do anything. And if so, how do I register? My old address we dont live at anymore so any mail they send there will probably be returned and I dont know where to go to tell them where I'm at. What do I do?
