Because they found out in Afghanistan, that most units were not in proper condition to make patrols in the mountains.

mechanization works in some cases.

But in cases like Afghanistan or even the clearing of Fulljah, infantry are still humping on foot with their gear for days at a time.

In the "New" Corps they try and do things in smarter way and will use what ever method is the most efficient to get to the fight. I Boot Camp we completed three humps prior to the crucible and during the crucible we humped some where are around 50 miles. So it is still there in Boot, and the grunts that I worked with spend many an hour touring Camp Pendleton on foot.

I am assuming you mean walking, sir. Please forgive, I don't know much about the Marine Corps yet.

I think it is a good idea. It keeps the Marines in shape. It also is a good thing to know how to do in case the personnel carriers fail or are blown up.

When I am a Marine soon, I hope I walk all of Iraq or better yet, Afganistan.

When I was there, there wasn't much humping but you know the Marine Corps always wants to stay prepared for anything...if we had another war in a country like Vietnam those APCs wouldn't get through all the mud cuz they're tracked

No. The Marines are still the elite fighters when it comes to being in shape. Humvees can still break down. Also, the humping as you call it, get them in shape and keeps them in shape. The jobs Marines do on a day to day basis requires stamina, humping helps with the stamina they need. Marines use their bodies as tools and need them to be in the best possible condition to ensure they are ready for anything.

They hump provided that there is a woman marine obtainable. i replaced right into a civilian engaged on the presidential palace in Baghdad, maximum squaddies have the perfect interest interior the international and yet all they do is whinge jointly as the out sourced civilians do each and all the artwork. lots of the grunts should not be wearing weapons they're a threat to themselves and others.

This is not the thing of the past. Today military operations based on terrain. Humping in Iraq is out of the question because it is desert terrain.

It's also about discipline and team work not just because of transportation issues. It's been done this way for so many years because the system works, as is how most things go in the govt.

I don't think you can airlift the rides to the mountains of Afghanistan and the border of Pakistan.

You get helo'd in, then you hump all day looking for those b***tards.
