We don't mind moving, however how about deployments? Or sea time?

Yes! actually it is the only service who takes family into consideration. I am currently active duty and my dad was until he retired. They try to only move you in the summertime that way the kids are out of school. Also deployment isn't like the other services, your in the US, your family comes with you. At most, you will go out on a cutter (boat) for 3 months-that's the longest. Others may be days, weeks or maybe not at all. Besides you get money for being separated from your family and sea pay. They have all types of services on the base to help your family when your not there.

The Coast Guard takes care of families just as well as any other branch. My brother is Active Duty coast Guard and my husband is Air Force so I do know about this stuff. How much time you spend underway is dependant upon your job. My brother is a desiel mechanic and spends 4 months out, 2 months in, 4 months out, and so on. His wife is well taken care of while his under way ("at sea"). When my brother worked as an instructor at Yorktown he never went under way. he is currently cross training into helicopter maintence and will not be underway very often. The Coast Guard does not PCS (move stations) very often at all. YES the CG does deploy to Iraq and those deployments are becoming more frequent. Deployments to Iraq are only 4 months at a time. You have a better chance of being under way than deployed. When you under way you will have e-mail access so staying in touch is very easy.
