WATCH THE VIDEO, BEFORE ANSWERING
"Gays in the military . . . here's how I feel about it, alright? Anyone . . . DUMB enough . . . to want to be in the military, should be allowed in. End of ******* story. That should be the only requirement."

Awkward question this one and I know I'm going to be slated by it. However I am going to say my piece.
Right the matter concerns sharing accommodation and shared washing facilities with little or no privacy.
Would it be acceptable for women to share rooms with men and have the same washing facilities because the principle is the same. If I was living in the same room as someone who is gay and shared the showers etc, with little privacy, well I'm sorry but I would feel uncomfortable.
I have been the subject of unwanted attention in public toilets when I was younger and I wouldn't want anyone else to be subject of that attention.

I have been in the military for 8 years. I have came across many gay superiors and subordinates in the Military. So to answer you question their are already gays in the military. The U.S. Military wants an image that actually intimidate other countries. But to have people that are obviously gay does not help that u.s. military image. I agree that gays would be as productive or not as anyone else in the military. But it would give us an image that I don't think we be appropriate for our military. Believe it or not its not what all we have done to make us so great. A lot of it is our image!!

I guess you're not aware that gays have been in military for CENTURIES. I spent over 20 years in the military and was stationed with many homosexuals/lesbians and found that the ones I knew were all top performers. One of my good friends was an E-7 U.S. Marine who was outted by one of her co-workers (she trusted the girl to take care of her guinea pig while Kim visited us and the girl was a nosy witch). She was 'penciled in' for orders to the office of the Commandant of the Marine Corps until the Marines found out she was a lesbian. It took them that long! And in less than 3 months, (based on pictures taken at nude beaches in Spain of nude MEN, nude MEN AND WOMEN and nude WOMEN and some letters from her lover stationed in Hawaii...NCIS only took the letters and pictures of nude women) she was a civilian with no military benefits. Yup, she was a REAL threat to the Corps.
I was never 'hit on' by any of the gay males I was stationed with, but I was hit on by some of the 'straight' females at 2 commands (at sea and on shore), and they knew I was married.

It is widely believed by historians that Alexander the Great was gay and he didn't too bad at soldering. There have always been gays in the military its just that they are a bit more open and some of the lesbians well I sooner face a platoon of marines then some of them.

I dont believe a person's sexual preference has any bearing on his right or wish to defend our country. I am sure there have been gay people in the military for many years. Who really cares?

They should keep quiet about their sexuality, then it wouldn't be relevant.
It isn't a question of whether you want to defend your country. What matters, is that emotional/sexual relationships during wartime create unwanted additional pressures and complexities.
Soldiers in the past, who may or may not have been homosexual, didn't wear it on their sleeve, and that's the point. If people didn't know, it didn't matter. They were not there to create sexual relationships.

Why should gender preference have ANY impact on a soldiers ability to defend his country? It's just that simple. Can gay soldiers fight as well as straight soldiers? Apparently they can. They have been for quite some time. Should they be ALLOWED to fight for their country even if their country treats them like crap? Again, why not? Why should anyone give a rat's ***?

What, you mean gays like Alexander the Great, Lawrence of Arabia, Montgomery of Alamein? No, they were dreadful soldiers and should have been strangled at birth. Get real.
