Patton once said that the objective of war is "to make the other bastard die for his country".

Often when I read the world history, especially about wars, soldiers who fought so hard for their country, and in doing so, will have to do some killing one way or another.

I'm curious on how they are dealing with such event during their service.

When I joined the military in '69, EVERYbody pronounced it as "pack com" including the folks from Hawaii. I work at DISA HQs now and everyone but me pronounces it "pay com," but that sounds so utterly weird to me. After all, how do they pronounce PACAF, COMSUBPAC, COMPACFLT, COMNAVAIRPAC, DISA-PAC, and all the rest???

For all these, the "p.a.c." part is pronounced as "pack". So where in hell did this "pay com" stuff come from?

Maybe it's just a DISA thing. After all, at DISA HQs, while DISA pronounces GCCS (the Global Command and Control System) by saying the letters individually, everyone else seems to call it "geeks."

can the launch of an armed warhead, aimed at us, be detected immediately by satellite, with this news automatically setting off a chain of events that causes that warhead to be blown up by one of our destroyer missles?

i remember ronald reagan proposing such a defense system, but that his proposal never got anywhere.

by now, we know that north korea could effectively hit our western states with its nuclear warhead. if it sent up such a missle, how would we blow it up over the pacific?

then, if it were in the mid pacific, what radiation fallout dangers would exist, and exist for how long? what would the ramifications be to seafood harvesting?

what is the truth?

I am going to graduate from College and get my Associates degree in August then when I am finished with that then I am so lost in what I want to do in life. Should I try to find my Neche and stick with that and get a Masters degree or should I join the military? If I do join the military then should I join the Marines or the Navy? I my gut tells me when I finish my college and get my AA degree then I should join the Marines. I realize that the Marines is harder then the Navy but I think I can go into the Marines and become successful. My life kind of sucks because I feel so lost and I think that is one of the reasons why I want to join the military. I need to get more patience and more leadership skills and I know I can get both of those from joining the military. Thanks for trying to help me out!

Since last 60 yeasr, Americans(USA) is enjoying some sort of super power status. despite all that they had very serious mistake in their foreign policy. That prompted me to ask this unusual question. I know some American foreign policy flaws. Many mistackes they did. And for that they paid heavy price too.

Read the attatched news story or simply read the headlines in yahoo News. Someone once told me in yahoo answers that the military does not recruit people with criminal histories... and ahem... that person is wrong!!! So, why is it ok for this to happen but an openly gay person must be booted. Having a felon in your platoon is certainly a good morale booster... wouldn't you say?

WASHINGTON - The Army and Marine Corps are letting in more recruits with criminal records, including some with felony convictions, reflecting the increased pressure of five years of war and its mounting casualties.

According to data compiled by the Defense Department, the number of Army and Marine recruits needing waivers for felonies and serious misdemeanors, including minor drug offenses, has grown since 2003. The Army granted more than double the number of waivers for felonies and misdemeanors in 2006 than it did in 2003. Some recruits may get more than one waiver.

The military routinely grants

Cold war was a big protector that safe guarded many weaker nations from powerful nations. The collapse of Soviet Union is the reason for present world disorder. If Russia is once more strengthened, we can expect better peace in the world. “If you want peace, prepare for war!”.

I'm sure some of them are still in the Military but have gotten new orders. Just wanted to know how I can contact them to see how they are doing for old times sake.
