I am going to graduate from College and get my Associates degree in August then when I am finished with that then I am so lost in what I want to do in life. Should I try to find my Neche and stick with that and get a Masters degree or should I join the military? If I do join the military then should I join the Marines or the Navy? I my gut tells me when I finish my college and get my AA degree then I should join the Marines. I realize that the Marines is harder then the Navy but I think I can go into the Marines and become successful. My life kind of sucks because I feel so lost and I think that is one of the reasons why I want to join the military. I need to get more patience and more leadership skills and I know I can get both of those from joining the military. Thanks for trying to help me out!

Before you enlist, you need to ask yourself some important questions.

Are you considering enlisting simply because you have no idea what to do with your life? In war time, this isn't generally the best motivation for joining up.

We are fighting a war right now. Chances are that after basic training, you would be sent into a combat situation. Are you willing to face enemy fire, terrorist attacks, open warfare in general? If not, then don't enlist.

That being said, I stand firm by the Marine Corps. Semper Fi, do or die!

If you enlist, come home safe.

You have to make this decisin for yourself. Look at what you want during and after the time you spend in service. Are you going to be a lifer, or just do your four and get out? If your going in for the long haul, remember that the Marine Corps basic training is the only one that you can do that makes you exempt from all others. Once you have Paris Island or San Deigo then if you want to go into a diffrent branch, you won't have to go through their boot camp. Not only that, just the U.S.M.C. background on a resume has opened alot of doors for me. The title means respect.
No matter which branch you go into, chances are you'll be mixed together. If you go into a tech field, 90% chance it will be at a Naval Station school. I'm a little bias so the only help I can give you is to know this FACT, "The Marine Corps is a Dept of the Navy...The Mens Dept!" If you do join the Corps, one thing you'll hear all the time is, " I was going to join the Marines.....BUT..." Do you want to be one of the guys who have to end that sentance with BUT?
If you're not in the best of shape, and just want the military feel. The Air Force has so me of the best schooling and living conditions in the service today.
Remember, the Navy doesn't mean you'll be stuck on a boat the whole time, the Air Force doesn't mean you'll be flying a plane, the Marine Corps doesn't brain wash you into a killing machine, and the Army doesn't mean you'll be wearing a dress.

I'm a Chicago Cop who has been in Fallujah Iraq for the last 17 months as a Police Adviser. I've worked and lived here with the Marines the whole time. I have an 18 year old son who is a Marine on his way over to Iraq. I'm still shocked at the discipline and focus these young Marines have. They don't complain about a situation, they make it work. Their problem solvers .Nothing against the other Military Branch's. But whenever I'm in Baghdad at a chow hall full of Military personal from all over the world, the US Marines there get the most attention. Their respected by all. I believe the experience of the Marines will last your whole life time. Your right it is harder to become a Marine. But from what I've seen here and in my own son it's worth the effort. Good luck.

If you want to serve for 4 years, the Guard is no longer an option (6 years). I am an Eagle scout wanting to be a cop too. That's why I joined the Air Force. As an eagle Scout, you will go in as an Airman First Class (E-3) and you can be guaranteed in writing to get the Air Forces version of Military Police, Security Forces (SF). Also, upon completion of Security Forces Technical Training School, you will have an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force. I would suggest you go talk to a recruiter.

Open up your options and include the Air Force and Army in your crosscheck. Yes, the Marines and very respected by some people (including me) but every branch is virtually the same in that you are a part of a professional fighting force. If you want to be a lazy bum you'll get crapped on in any branch. Just look at the positions and lifestyle that each offers. Besides, everything is joint force now days anyway.

Oh ya, join the air force... lots of people I've spoke with in other branches say they wish they'd of done the AF... yes including a few Marines.

You did not say what your Associates degree was in. The reason I mention this is certain fields will give you better training in certain miltary branches. mine you can get training in any of them in fields - however some have more to pick from.
Such as if your degree is in electronics or computers you will have a wider range in the Navy or Air Force, If your degree is in public affairs all branches have news services.

look at the services as a chance to expand your education and see if you have choosen the right field of study while getting on hands job training. Research online what service will give you the training you want for life. Generally carrying a gun and shooting at people is not a career for the long term. Although it is a skill.

Say no more! The Marine Corps is the most honorable branch in the United States. I'm very loyal to the Marines as I will be one myself. Join the Marines, you'll be very proud of yourself! Semper Fi!

On the side, I mean no disrespect to our wonderful Navy boys out there. My relative is the Secretary of the Navy and I live right next to Pearl Harbor.
