How about Custer, that was pretty bad, or the lost of the white house in the war of 1812?
Is that you were looking for?

Gee, the last Five Hundred years??? 500... I'm trying to go back to that part of... hmm, thinking about the untold millions of mistakes and blunders we MUST have made. Hmmm?? 500 years. Wait. WAIT!!
If you know as much about foreign policy flaws as you obviously do about history... stick with selling fruit on the streets of your village. And be thankful we can refrain and not drop some of the "sort of super power status" on you.
You are so correct when you claim your Q is very unusual. Guess the spell check can't fix everything for you.
Thanks for the 2!

I know what your getting at!
America is such a horrible nation. All we ever do is d*** around with other countries for our benefit. All we do is think of ourselves before anyone else. Yep. You got us nailed pal.
My opinion. We are not perfect, but, we make our share of mistakes.
Just two to name real quick (maybe)
Vietnam.
Maybe even this Iraq war. (However, I would prefer to wait this one out until it has properly concluded however that takes place before calling it a mistake.)
Mind you. Neither one of these were military blunders as you call them. Our military follows orders. Via politicians. Those are the jackanapes whom make our "blunders".
But don't worry. When every other third world country is hit by some natural disaster. WE will be the first ones there to not only pay the damages without getting our money back. But WE will also be the first to give aid hands on.
OH! Do you have a Cell Phone? Maybe a Computer? You must have a computer...
You can think the good old USA for that. Because WE are the home of this little organization NASA. You know, just sending people into space to better the lives of humanity.
(Oh, I am sorry. I meant, just the U.S.) <*hint of sarcasm.
Yeah. We are the worst country ever to exist.
About your "500" years...
I might be off a bit. But we have only been around for about 231 years.
1776 was the year we declared our independence.

Yes, we have paid a considerable price for failed foreign policies. Vietnam was the first, but we recovered in time. The second was not finishing the job in Iraq in 1991. Who knows what the outcome would have been, but at least then, the world was united with us against Iraq, and would have provided more support in reconstruction. The Al Qaida insurgency into Iraq wasn't formed in those days, so I imagine we would not have had the level of problems we've had today. And today, Bush's foreign policy has alienated the world and caused a wedge with our own allies. I support the actions, but it has been poorly administered. We underestimated our enemy and Bush surrounded himself with his Daddy's advisors. These were brilliant men in the cold war era, but this is not a cold war enemy, and the old men, steeped in the old ways of dealing with the USSR, have not adapted well to today's challenges.

Not gonna be a popular answer.. but the biggest mistake was WWII.. if that would have all been done and over with we would all be one unified world government now under the same set of laws etc.. Even the Bush family supported the Nazi's back when (matter of public record.. and easy to find The US even confiscated bank accts and property from Dubyas great grandfather).. Did i say it was nice? Nope I DID NOT say that.. it wasnt nice at all.. but War never is... but we would have been unified now and not have the problems we have now..
Patton was right.. we picked the wrong side (oh you didnt know he said that? Yeah yer all a buncha history buffs huh?)

Allowing the UN to hold one arm behind our back for the past 30 years, and not letting us unleash our full potential. And its been said already, but 500 years ago, there was no US, so at least make an attempt to have accurate information before you try to make my country look bad. I would prefer if we closed our borders and let the rest of the world try to help everyone as we do, but i guess we just are selfish bastards.

I would say the biggest military blunder was the poorly timed and executed attack on Iwo Jima. It made the Iraqi war planning look competent. It all started with the attack at low tide (so the boats carrying the troops couldn't land forcing them to wade to the beach) and went downhill from there.

Don't you mean in the last 230 years? The United States of America only came into existence in the year 1776. You should probably think through your questions a bit before you post them!

I would say the army asking for armor in Somalia and the SECDEF saying no because of how it would look. That one needlessly cost a lot of lives. Not joining WWII sonner but waiting to get attacked is another. Saving France (2 times) is probably another.
